Divani Palace Acropolis
Ranked #68 of 282 Hotels in Athens
Reviewed 22 June 2011

We and our granddaughter (11) enjoyed our five nights in a triple at the Divani Acropolis, very well located for tourists, on a quiet street and within walking distance of the metro, the Acropolis and all the major classical sites.

The Divani’s main market is tour groups. Décor and furnishing were a little tired. There are spacious public areas and a small but adequate pool which was surprisingly uncrowded. Our room was small for three but adequately furnished and the Acropolis was visible from its balcony.

Breakfast was a large buffet in the basement restaurant, of rather ‘average’ quality. We did not use that restaurant otherwise but had one excellent if expensive dinner in the rooftop restaurant with its magical view. We also took lunch several times at the pool – good quality and service but also expensive by local standards.

There is wired internet access in the bedrooms, WiFi at ground level and one public computer. The charge is an irritating €5 per day per device (!).

The staff were pleasant and helpful and the general atmosphere welcoming and efficient.

The Divani is not the five star hotel it claims to be - and is more a base than a destination - but it’s a straightforward four star and we thought the €190 b and b rate good value for what we got. Recommended to tourists.

This a large hotel just below the Acropolis and Plaka areas. They cater to groups and there is a lot of traffic coming and going. The breakfast area is huge with lots of variety but not especially great food. Small welcoming pool. Busy confrence areas. Our room in the new wing was lovely with a modern bathroom and blackout drapes. It was tasteful and the bed was plush. We had a little balcony with a view of the Acropolis. You can view the ancient Themistoclian walls upon which the hotel was built in specially designed window areas in the hotel. The staff is pleasant and helpful

We booked this hotel at the last minute--the price was a bit high for Athens but we did have an enormous two room suite with a lovely view of the garden and pool. Our tiny dog was accepted, and the copious and very good buffet breakfast was included in the room rate. The service was excellent, the staff accommodating. The Acropolis and museums are within very easy walking distance.

Stayed at what I thought was a 5 star hotel. Would be lucky if I could give it a 3 star rating. Firstly it was a mission to get the double bed that I booked and clearly stated on my reservation. I eventually got the room with double bed to find that it had a leaky air conditioner that dripped on the floor from 2am.
Rooms are very tired and need total renovation. Looks as though the last time they had any work done was in the 70's. Don't let photos of lobby fool you! Rooms are the complete opposite.
I should have stuck with the single bed as it probably would have been more confortable and I wouldn't have to hear dripping on the old carpet all night.
Glad this was my last hotel for this trip, as it made me appreciate my next stop was home!!!!

Location is near acropolis (views are great) and near Plaka and points of interest. All the hotel amenities are good and the staff from front desk to restaurant and housekeeping are superb. Even the gift shop is good.

Room Tip: Ask for view of acropolis if possible.

The room was nothing to write home about, but the included breakfast was good. On the days when there was too many tour groups, the service was a bit slow. The location was great, easy walking to the Acropolis Museum and the Plaka district. The reception staff was very helpful and the doormen were very good about storing our luggage when we had a late boarding time for the cruise. Their free shuttle into town was perfect to eliminate some of the walking we would otherwise have had to done to see the sites we still wanted to see.

The hotel is well located, the bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and well-equipped. I was particularly impressed by the the housekeeping department. I left a pair of sandals in my room - I telephoned the hotel a couple of days later and they located the sandals and posted them to my home address in Yorkshire, recorded delivery, free of charge. They arrived a 5 days after my phonecall. Excellent service!
