“A great hotel in the heart of Athens”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Amalia Hotel is a small hotel in the very center of Athens right on the Syntagma Square. It is very clean and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is very helpful. The hotel is 3-4 minutes away from the major and most popular shopping streets in Athens and it is very close to other popular shopping and dining areas including Plaka, Monastiraki and Psiri. Just 2 minutes away from the hotel there are bus stations and the central underground station with which one can travel almost anywhere in Athens. Regardless of its central location, Amalia Hotel is really quiet and safe.

Perfect hotel to stay for 1-3 nights, I don't reccomend for a longer time

good points:
+ location, 50m from Syntagma square (subway), 10 minutes walk from Plaka
+ room: clean, in good condition, comfortable bed, I would change only the carpet, which seems to be dirty and old
+ breakfast: every day the same, but very tasty
+ freindly stuff

bad points, actually only details like:
- the above- maintioned carpet
- no kettle in the room to make yourself a cup of coffee or tea
- no frills like swimmig pool or children's corner

Room Tip: perfect hotel to stay for 1-3 nights, I don't reccomend for a longer time

Considering that we were a group of 49, everything went on smoothly. Room key distribution took less than 5 minutes. Accurate luggage delivery to each room! Prompt wake-up call. Despite our big number, fresh and hot breakfast daily. Tastiest scrambled eggs you can ever have. Sour cherry juice complements very well. Staff always friendly and helpful. Stayed just 2 floors above street level but noise was never an issue. I thought the nearer to the lobby, the faster the wi-fi connection (a little secret). Just in case, there is free internet at a desktop with printer at the lobby. Everybody else has raved about the location. For shopping, to the left of the hotel are 4 streets, the first leading to the flea market, the second (Ermou) for H&M, Zara, Folie-folie, etc. and the fourth for luxury brands. For dining, to the right of the hotel is a byzantine church, cross the street, turn to the left and in a few minutes you are in the Plaka district with restaurants scattered all over, not to mention the souvenir shops that stay open up to 10 p.m. For sightseeing, the Parliament is a few meter across the street, the temple of Zeus and Hadrian's arch are less than 10 minutes walk to the right of the hotel. Oh, and public transport is literally in front of your doorstep. Don't look for luxury here, just a downright value for money place to stay in Athens.

The hotel was very centrally located with most historic sites walking distance from there. The airport bus just stops a few yards from the hotel round the corner which was extremely convenient. The tram stop is just outside as is a hop on hop off bus stop opposite the hotel and the metro a short walk away. The national gardens are right opposite and there is a little zoo in there with bird and turtles! Our 5 year old boy loved it. The hotel was a basic 4 star but clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

ideally located next to the main city attractions
a few steps from the metro station (Syntagma Square) that links the city to the airport
nice and friendly staff
rich buffet breakfast
wi-fi connection available in all parts of the hotel for free
excellent and cheap room service

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the main street can be very noisy since the road is always very busy

I stayed in Amalia hotel in February, arriving very late, circa 2:00 am. No issues, the night registration clerk was there, ready to check me in quickly and even with a smile.
Room number 610.
Great view from the terrace, comfortable bed (good sleep) and very clean and functional bathroom. Good choice of drinks in a mini-bar.
Breakfast: excellent, tasty food, good coffee.
Hotel offers great value for the money I paid and is located close to the Parliament, Synthagma square and main metro lines.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms on the higher floors and with a view over the parliament.
