“Great Location, Good Breakfast, Next to Plaka & Historical Gardens!!”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

This review is based on our recent stay at Hotel Amalia! A good hotel very strategically located right next to Plaka--the shopping district and also with lots of street cafes to have kabobs and greek food open till late night. The historical gardens are right opposite to this hotel. The hop on hop off buses stop here for city touring. The tour buses pick you up from this hotel. Rooms are fairly decent with balconies. Breakfast and reception area also good. Breakfast is really good with a variety of items to choose from including some crispy greek desert! You also get free wifi .We loved our stay in Athens with Hotel Amalia and would love to come back again in future.
An advice: Please make some packed breakfast boxes arrangements for early flight takers from Athens to other places of visit since Athens provides lots of early morning flight connections. We missed your lovely breakfast on the last day of our stay since we had to take a morning flight.

Room Tip: Make the most of this hotel.

We recently stayed at the Amalia Hotel for 2 nights. We arrived late at night (around 2:00 am), but we were checked in quickly and courteously. Our room had one Queen Bed, with 2 pairs of slippers waiting for us. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and clean.

The 2 areas where this hotel really shines are location and breakfast. The hotel is 1 block from Syntagma Square, so the location is perfect for exploring all parts of Athens. It is across the street from the National Gardens, and walking distance from most sites. There is a metro stop at Syntagma Square, so it's also very easy to hop on the metro to get wherever you need to go. If you arrive late at night like we did, the Airport Bus X95 drops off at Syntagma Square, so it is a quick 3 minute walk from the bus to the hotel.

Breakfast is served on the Mezzanine floor, and has a HUGE (5 or 6 tables) buffet setup, with everything from pastries and fruit to eggs, potatoes, sliced meats, and yogurt. It is by far one of the best complimentary breakfasts I've ever seen.

The lobby is very clean and modern, with a complimentary computer and printer to print boarding passes. Wifi is also free and worked well in the room.

Around 9:00-10:00 am, when housekeeping is beginning to clean the rooms, it does get a bit noisy in the hallways. It's not the quietest hotel, but it's still pretty quiet. We never had an issue sleeping. Overall, Amalia Hotel Athens is tough to beat, and I would definitely consider staying there again.

Location cannot be beat. Walking distance to shopping, museums, Plaka, Monastiraki, and to all forms of transportation--buses, subway, trams. Fantastic breakfasts offering a variety of choice. Friendly and efficient front desk.
In terms of the room, the bathroom is roomy and clean and the rest of the room is also a good size and mostly clean, but the carpet was dated and looked like it could use a good scrub. The free in-room wifi is fast. A/C is quiet, works well. Try to choose a room on the upper floors as the hotel is located on a busy boulevard.

Room Tip: Higher floors for less street noise.

This hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of Athens close to the old town and with a very pleasant park on the opposite side of the road. The room was good although slightly dark if you wanted to read and with a well equipped but very small bathroom. The breakfast was absolutely first class with a selection to suit all tastes and nationalities served in a very pleasant room. The staff at reception were efficient and helpful especially the young lady in the evening who helped with airline boarding passes and seat reservations. A pleasant stay slightly marred by the lunatic taxi driver who drove us to the airport. On my next visit I shall definitely take the airport bus which leaves from just around the corner..

Only stayed for 1 night but were really happy with our stay. Checked in early with ease on a Sunday- please note many stores are closed in downtown Athens on Sunday- Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Very nice stand up shower, good AC, comfortable bed (we had a King bed that was actually 2 side by side twins beds). Room came with flat screen tv, safe, mini fridge and had free WiFi. The breakfast had large variety and was quite good. The location of the hotel is about 5 min walk from Syntagma subway station- which we were able to walk to with luggage and get to and from airport (about 40 min) for only 16 euros for 2 persons. This hotel is in walking distance to the Acropolis and the Plaka (restaurants/tourist shops). Overall very hope with this hotel.

I stayed at the Amalia in July. The staff were very nice, especially Dimitri who was searching for a particular Greek dish for me to try. Breakfast was very good and the hotel was very easy to find as I caught a bus from the airport and it was truly right around the corner. I walked to all the sights and as it is opposite the National Gardens was easy to go for a relaxing stroll. As I was a solo traveller I felt safe at all times. The room I had was tiny but enough for me. I will return with my husband to stay here.

We did not stay at the hotel, but we wanted to start our day with a rich breakfast. The hotel staff smiling and polite. The breakfast buffet contained various delicacies ,all delicious. The filter coffee was hight quality, the crockery simple but dignified, the breakfast hall sunny, bright and tidy. Excellent and spotless toilets. All this just for 16 euros per person. Difficult to find in Athens breakfast on this price and quality.
Definitely recommended!!
