My friend and I stayed at the Stanley Hotel whilst on a city break to Athens. The hotel was situated right outside 'metaxourghio metro station' making all the tourist stops and the city centre a short hop away. But it is also not far from Omonia which hasn't got the best reputation, but we had no trouble. The staff were friendly and our room was clean, spacious and had a nice view of the Acropolis from the balcony. However the bathroom was small but it did come fully equipped with a telephone! There is a bar, but it is pricey...around £10 for a small cocktail. The breakfast buffet was quite extensive, with sausages and eggs as well as cold meats, cheese and cakes. This hotel is ideal for someone who plans on using the hotel as more of base from which to explore the city.

Room Tip: Try for a high floor with a balcony for a view of the Acropolis.

We stayed here in September 2007. The room was clean and comfortable but was inside facing so only a view of the back of the hotel. However the bar and restuarant at the top of the hotel was wonderful as at night there is a backdrop of the Acropolis. This restaurant serves great food and is reasonably priced. The pool is also a good place to relax after a hard day walking around Athens. I wuld definately stay there again.

The Stanley Hotel represents excellent value for money and I would reccommend it to travellers who are just looking to use a hotel as a base from which to explore the city. The location itself isn't that great as it's right on the doorstep of a pretty dodgy neighbourhood, however the Metaxourghio metro station is just outside the hotel and will take you into the city centre in minutes.

The hotel and its facilities are a little dated but comfortable nontheless. Our room on the 5th floor was very large and had a balcony with a view right to the Acropolis which was fantastic. The bathroom was the exact opposite of the bedroom being absolutely minute but everything was fresh and clean which is the main thing. Breakfast was ok... the buffet is pretty comprehensive so should suit most peoples tastes - steer clear of the fried eggs though which must have been cooked for a few hours judging by their rubbery texture. I would also steer clear of the downstairs bar too. The prices they charge are what you'd expect from an upmarket hotel - we paid 11 euros for a smallm whiskey and coke!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone not looking to spend too much time in their hotel, and if you are of a nervous disposition beware of walking around the surrounding neighbourhoods after dark.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the roundabout are the best. They may be a little noisy with all the traffic but you'll have a fantastic view of the Acropolis from your balcony!
