We only had an overnight stay here whilst waiting to join our cruise.
Considering the number of people checking in it was completed speedily and efficiently.
We upgraded at a cost of 53 Euros to the Executive Floor, this was very worthwhile as you had access to the Executive Lounge where drinks and food were available all inclusive throughout the day as well as a full cooked breakfast in the morning.
Staff in Executive Lounge were polite and attentive.
The rooms were slightly more spacious and also had a direct view across towards the Acropolis.
The extra cost more than covered all the food and drink we consumed and I have no doubt we would have spent much more had we not upgraded, so for a short stopover it is worth considering.
As this was just a brief stay the location was not important and we did not venture out into Athens and overall it made a start to our cruise holiday.

We stayed at the InterContental Athenaeum Hotel in November 2012. The hotel is very large with a grand lobby including shops. This hotel also hosts a lot of conventions. The greeting was very warm and we were given our rooms at 9:30 am as we needed to be off our ship by 9:00 am, a lot of cruise ships use this hotel. The room was very large and well appointed. We were given a room with a view of the Acropolis that was very nice. The bathroom was also quite large with a very nice tub and shower combination. The hotel provides a shuttle service to Syntagma Square on a schedule. We could not use the service as there were demonstrations going on while we were in Athens. The big drawback to the hotel is the location. It is not near many sights and there are no restaurants close to the hotel, your only option is the hotel restaurants that seemed to have high prices on the menu.

The rooms were extremely large, especially for Europe. The lobby was nice and the staff outstanding. I had a light dinner on the patio and it was excellent. I didn't have breakfast - they said it was 30 euros, which sounded too high to me. But then I'm not a big breakfast eater. My complaint on the location is if you are there as a tourist. My last trip to Athens my hotel was just down the street from the Parthenon and the Plaka area so there were numerous things we could walk to - tourist sites, shopping, and many restaurants. This was not true of the Intercontinental. We tried to walk to dinner and couldn't find anything. The hotel didn't have any suggestions of places in walking distance either.

Thank you for staying at the Athenaeum InterContinental while visiting Athens earlier this month. Guest satisfaction is our primary concern and it is always a pleasure to learn from our guests that their stay was an enjoyable one. We have noted your comment about our location and though we are situated in a residential and business area, there are a few options for dinner ranging from a 5 to 15 minute walk from the hotel. However, we do apologise for the fact that our staff did not inform you of these choices during your stay. Strenghts: rooms, courtesy of the staff, breakfast, roof terrace.
Weaknesses: location and bar/restaurant prices, no free wi-fi, top floor restaurant.
I have been in this hotel for 3 nights, I had a really large room with a super-comfortable bed -you can also choose the pillows on a menu (but on payment). In the bathroom you find good quality amenities and smooth towels. The rooms are really clean and it's a pleasure to stay there.
Breakfast is gorgeus, you find anything you like and the quality of the food is high.
The view from the roof terrace is amazing, but not from the rooms...
I think this is a great hotel but there are some weakness I would like to point out: in a 5stars hotel I think it is strange (and not smart) to make the guests pay for wi-fi... Related to costs and prices I think that 7,50€ for a small bottle of Perrier is robbery and also the prices of the restaurant at the top floor are simply crazy (the quality of the food is not so high). Last issue regards the location. Unfortunately the hotel is in a ghost area, no shops or bars and neither a place where you can stroll. You have always to take a taxi to go anywhere. In any case, I enjoyed a lot my stay at Intercontinental.

Not a great location. There is a shuttle but not very convenient. The taxi fares are unexpensive though. Nice spa and steam bath, but extra cost. Servivar outreagous expensive. The beds need urgently a change over. Not too many things around.

Overall, this hotel is OK with standards to be expected for an Intercontinental. Rooms spacious, beds comfortable. The reason I only rate it three stars is because of :

1) its location (rundown area and no restaurants or facilities nearby).

2) restaurants and mini bar expensive by ANY standard (breakfast 38 euros, Pringles 6.50 euros, can of Coke 7.50 euros!!), let alone Greece.

3) Pool was nice with excellent service but unheated (too cold in October).

Not sure what the alternative would be, but certainly somewhere more lively.

Thank you for choosing the Athenaeum InterContinental on your recent visit to Athens and for your feedback. We have noted your comments and would like to take this opportunity to advise you that our prices for breakfast and mini bar items are similar to our competitors in Athens. With regard to our outdoor swimming pool, while it operates in the summer months, due to the extended summer weather this year and guest demand, we exceptionally decided to extend its operation till 28 October, 2012. Once again, we thank you for your valuable comments and look forward to welcoming you back on a future visit to our city.

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the overall ambiance was very good. The room was very spacious room and toilets very clean. Could have probably done with a better breakfast selection but overall acceptable. The view from the hotel room was of the acropolis museum.
