“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

My wife and I stayed at Athens Cypria Hotel for four nights.
We took an Acropolis view room at the 6th (top) floor.
The room was clean and spacious with a nice balcony. The view of the Acropolis was very nice.
The double bed was composed of two single beds attached together which was ok but we would prefer one double bed.
there were some noises at night from guests returning to their rooms but not something serious.

The breakfast was great with a nice variety of foods and drinks.

The location of the hotel is excellent - less than 5 minutes walk from Syntagma square and the Plaka.

The staff of the hotel were nice and helpful.

Recommended.

I am confused how this hotel gets good reviews. I originally was staying on the 6th or 7th floor but the bed was so uncomfortable (I could feel all the springs) and the air circulation was horrendous in the room. I have never had a problem with allergies in hotels in the US or Europe, but after a two hour nap in this dusty room I woke up totally congested. We ended up getting our room switched to a lower floor with a bigger bathroom and the air was better, but the beds were still horrendous. I am in my twenties, and if I am having issues with these beds, I cannot imagine how older people can sleep on these.

The only pros: The location is good for walking (don't get a cab from the hotel, walk to Syntagma it will save a lot of money by avoiding one-way streets). They also have good wifi and one of the bellhop/doormen is super nice and the woman at the desk with big hair in the evening is great.

However, I would not recommend this hotel in Athens. I ended up checking out of this hotel a night early and losing the prepaid room and getting a room at another hotel that was clean and had good beds. I have never done that before, especially considering the room was prepaid. A good location, or cheaper price isn't worth it when you cannot sleep because of bad beds, bad air quality, and a general uncleanly feel.

Stayed here twice on my to and from a Greek island. Missed breakfast both times so can't say anything about that. The location whoever is perfect !! 15m from the main shopping street and close from the train/bus to the airport. There are a few steps from the reception to the elevator which is annoying when you've got a lot of luggage. But I would stay here again, simple and clean rooms.

Arrived after long flight from the US to be told that the hotel didn't have our reservation even though we had e-mail communications with them confirming it. We went through Cheap tickets and got a great rate which the hotel didn't want to honor so they rented our rooms out. When we arrived they had already found us two rooms in another hotel which indicated to us that this was planned. Cheap tickets did refund us our money. Make sure to contact your hotel directly and then that isn't a garauntee that they will honor it.

Great value. Good breakfast. Walking distance to most major attractions. Highly recommend this small 4 star hotel. If you need luxury this isn't it. If you want value a a superb location, it is for you.
Just around the corner from shopping. 4blocks from syntagma square and the Metro. Ten minutes from the Plaka district and 15 to The Acropolis.

Room Tip: Ours was on the street, but no trouble with noise

We stayed at the hotel June 5-9 and had 2 rooms. The location is very close to Syntagma Square and right off of Ermou Street (awesome shopping). The rooms are a little dated but roomy (by European standards) and clean. The doors to the rooms are old and they do not shut automatically- you have to actually pull/push them shut and there is no way to quietly do this. Hearing our neighbors' doors close during the night was not ideal but would in no way keep me from staying again. The ac was very cold. The super plus to this hotel is the great breakfast buffet that is included in the rates- various breads, pastries, yogurt with all the toppings, bacon, sausage, eggs, various cheeses, juices, cereal, etc. We were actually able to skip lunch and just have an early dinner (which works better on our American schedule) so we saved money on food. The hotel does not offer views however, we felt very safe and there were restaurants and a Haagan Dazs right across the street so the convenience made up for it. The hotel staff was very nice as well.

Room Tip: If you have never been to Athens- I suggest using the Hop-On Hop-Off Tours at least for one day. Th...

We had two rooms at the start and end of our trip to Greece. On our first visit, one of the rooms had a very unpleasant odour and a rattling aircon unit. On our second stay, one safe was broken and one aircon unit leaked all night!

The price of the rooms is reasonable but maybe this is reflected in the facilities. The upside is that it is very well located for metro, Acropolis shops and tavernas yet fairly quiet. The staff were helpful.
