“Great Hotel, Wonderful Location”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed at the Hera in early Ocotober. Due to the strikes in Greece, we had to travel from the islands to Athens a day early. Hera was able to accomodate us for an additional night with no hassle. We really appreciated it given all the other uncertainty caused by the stife in the country.

Everyone we met at the hotel was pleasant and friendly.

The location right next to the new Acropolis Museum is fabulous. We were able to get to everything we wanted to see with very little effort. There are also a number of good dining choices close by.

The rooftop restaurant had very good food, reasonable prices and a view of the Parthenon that was awsome. One word or warning though - cocktails with non-Greek liqours are EXPENSIVE. One evening after dining elsewhere, we went up to the roof bar. 3 drinks were 42 Euro ($60). I doubt they would cost that much in New York.

Our room was small but functional.

We stayed at the Hera Hotel for three nights, and it was a wonderful hotel. The location was fabulous - 1/2 block from the New Acropolis Museum. It was close to all the activity, but on a very quiet street. It was so nice to be well located after a day of sight-seeing and knowing we did not have to depend on public transportation in Athens where the each mode of transportation takes turns going on strike! We had an Acropolis view; however, any room would be nice. We didn't spend much time looking out the window! The rooms were beautiful, well appointed and very clean. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. The rooftop restaurant was a treat - wonderful Acropolis view and delicious! The buffet breakfast room was delicous! I would stay at Hera Hotel again when in Athens and highly recommend it!

The pros: The hotel is just a few blocks from the Acropolis so you can walk - especially convenient when there is a transit strike as there was when I was in Athens. Front desk people are quite friendly and they did help us arrange for their private driver to pick us up from the airport due to the strike. The driver George, was fabulous, friendly, fun and helpful, one of the most pleasant people we met on our trip! There are many restaurants to choose from down the street and tons more if you walk a few blocks towards the Acropolis, also lots of tourist shops.

The cons: Our Acropolis view room was not what I expected for the price. To see the Acropolis, you had to step out onto the extremely tiny balcony and turn to the side. I imagined my husband & I sharing a bottle of wine on the balcony with the Acropolis in full view- there was hardly room for that on the balcony. From the room itself all we saw were apartment buildings- no view at all.
The room itself was so miniscule, 2 people could not possibly pass one another and we constantly found ourselves backing into one corner or another to let the other person get by. 2 twin beds made up their "king." Closet was fine, bathroom was small but clean, towels were a bit rough. It was a typical older European style hotel.
There was a bit of a mix-up with our reservation do to the language barrier that caused us some alarm for a good 15 minutes until another receptionist was called to locate our reservation.
The roof restaurant was empty when we went up for drinks around 7:00-7:30 PM. A bit small but cozy with a view, we didnt choose to eat dinner there. Breakfast buffet the next morning was fine.
Also, all the guests we came into contact with American- if you like to travel around the world and be with Americans, this hotel will suit you. We will pay a bit more more and choose a more upscale hotel next time we're in Athens.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Even though we are glad that you enjoyed our prime location , it is dissapointing to hear, that you werent fully satisfied with our hotel.

Indeed our rooms, might be considered small. However, the view from most of the rooms with Acropolis view is clear. We never suggested or mentioned that the view is from inside the room. But if you step out from the room, at the balcony, the Acropolis is in front of you. It is quite common in Athens, due to the plithora of buildings, that the view might be disturbed.

Regarding the mix-up with your reservation, I am really sorry to hear that. However, as I recall it was solved after a while.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to post your review.

We hope that we shall have the pleasure of accommodating you again.

At your disposal,

Iro Chatzilia

We booked 2 nights at the Hera Hotel having read about it in "Greece Magazine" and could not praise it enough. We booked one of the Akropolis view rooms and were really happy with it. The standard was really good, extremely clean and the buffet breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Acropolis, the New Acropolis Museum, Plaka and the Metro. We ate at the Peacock roof top restaurant on our second night and the service was impeccable. The food was delicious too and the view amazing well worth splashing out. We would definitely go back.

This year, we stayed already for the third time at this nice hotel. It is a small hotel, but the location is great. From the restaurant on top of the hotel you have a nice view on the Akropolis and the metro is on walking distance to the hotel. The people in the hotel are very friendly. For sure, we will come back to this hotel when being in Athens next time.

A friend and I stayed at the Hera Hotel for three days while touring Athens in September. The location is superb -- steps from the Acropolis and its museums, as well as good restaurants and one of the more popular shopping areas in the city. The Athens Metro is just up the street. While our room was small, it had a small terrace and all the amenities we could desire. There is a rooftop restaurant with a great view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. While the food is not the best in town, we enjoyed the meal we had there. Breakfast is included in the cost of the room and is served in a lovely garden room. Breakfast was plentiful and good.
