“Good base for exploring Athens”
Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

First impression of the foyer was quite formal but the staff at reception were very warm and relaxed in their welcome. Our room was not large but had every thing we needed. We booked a standard Acropolis view and it definitely delivered with a good view from the small balcony. The location is very good for accessing the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. You can walk through to the Plaka area in a few minutes. If you want to explore further afield there is a Metro station just up the road. Hotel staff can also arrange bookings for open top tourist buses that circulate on a regular basis to main tourist sites. Excellent breakfast served in the lovely restaurant space downstairs. Agree with some previous comments that carpets are a bit tired and no plug for the bath but we felt the Hera was good value for money and would stay here again.

The property, although in a good location, is surrounded by a lot of other hotels in a good location, so do your research. The rooms are small. Small by European standards. small, small, small. And we had upgraded our room! We also had a view. Again, just not all that impressive. We had free wifi and breakfast came with the room. The view from the roof top restaurant (open evenings only) was much better, but the restaurant is not air conditioned - so quite hot out for cocktails and photos. The room was a bit worn, and although we had a lovely tub - no plug for it, so the shower was all you could use. Good location for the sights, but quite a drive from the airport with a hefty taxi fee. Consider staying closer to the airport and using the metro - we found it to be very easy to navigate.

Dear Grammy L,

Thank you for posting your review.

I am sorry to read that you found us just ok.

You could say that our rooms could be considered quite small, compared to US standards. However, the rooms with view are considered , from the majority of our guests, one of the best highlights of Hera Hotel.Regarding your comments on our Roof Garden restaurant, as it s an open place- roof garden air condition is not feasible to operate.

Hope that you enjoyed your visit in Greece.

This hotel is right down the street from the Acropolis and all the amazing things that you'll want to visit. The hotel was nice and the rooms were pretty good. Breakfast was free each morning and it was pretty good too. We even used the laundromat across the street which was nice to wash our clothes after traveling for 8 days already.

This hotel is stunningly beautiful inside and out! We booked two rooms at short notice after deciding to change our travel plans. Our room was very small and had a tiny balcony which overlooked the ugly roof of the dining room and the back of buildings,if we had been large we'd never have got out the door which only just opened due to the position of the bedside table! There were no other windows and I found it small and claustrophobic! also, as the room was so small the A/C unit noise kept me awake! Our teenagers room had a view of the main road a large balcony with table and chairs and was large and airy..oh well i suppose it was because we needed 2 rooms together! We had a very odd looking bathroom I think it is for disabled guests! The staff were very friendly and looked after our luggage until it was time to leave for the airport. The breakfast was the best I have ever eaten in a hotel! Just wonderfully laid out, great quality, and the choice of bread and cakes was lovely.they even did a vegetarian frittata with fresh baguette! The hotel is literally 2 minutes from the main street, museum and Acropolis. As it was so hot we left the hotel at 7.30 am went up the acropolis and got back had a shower and still had an hour to get breakfast as they serve until 11am!! Wonderful!! Teenagers loved the free wi-fi but it dropped out at times!

Room Tip: Not room 107!!

Regarding your comments for your room, Indeed we do have some rooms that are specially designed for wheelchair access. I assume that we had allocated you in that room since you had requested rooms to be close.

I am glad that you enjoyed your breakfast. We always try to change and offer various plates to cover all tastes.

Hope to welcome you again all 4 of you and definetely we will offer you the front room!

We only stayed at The Hotel Hera for one night, before our cruise through Greece and Turkey. The hotel was beautiful, room was small, but great with a large balcony and kview of the Acropolis! Breakfast was included and was plentiful. Plaka is a short walk away from the hotel with many restaurants, pubs and lots of shopping. Keep an eye out for old ruins in Plaka. We stumbled across many and even got to witness the Blessing of an infant at St. Catherine's. It was breathtaking.

Room Tip: Request a balcony room.

Dear Kelly,

Thank you for your review.

I am glad that you enjoyed your visit in Athens. St. Catherine is indeed a very nice small church close to us and it was nice that you had the chance to see a Greek Orthodox christening.

Hope to see you again..

This hotel is in a fantastic location for visiting the historical sights of Athens, which of course is why you're coming here. The new Acropolis museum is a 3 minute walk from the hotel, the acropolis entrance is about 8 minutes and the ancient agora gate is about 12 minutes. You can also easily walk to Plaka and Monastraki from the hotel in less than 10 minutes. The hotel is clean and the front desk was attentive, friendly and helpful. The rooms are small, as to be expected for a European hotel. The water pressure and shower are strong and were extremely welcome after experiencing a poor shower in our last hotel. The breakfast was good, but not great. We didn't have the opportunity to eat at the rooftop restaurant, the Peacock, but the view was nice and the cocktails were decent, served by a friendly staff. Overall, this hotel is highly recommended as a launching point to see the sights and sounds of this fantastic and ancient city.

We found the boutique Hera Hotel to be a very nice place to stay while in Athens. It is located very close to restaurants and shopping, but more importantly it is only about one block to the new museum and within walking distance to the parthenon itself. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff very helpful. Although there was no pool, everything else made up for it.
