Many people forget to include the ancient Kerameikos Museum and ancient cemetery when visiting Athens. It is just a few minutes from Monastiraki. Just keep going west going down Adrianou Street or get off the Metro at Thission. The museum contains many beautiful and valuable pieces found on the site and you will find out what happened to Athenians during he great Plague under Pericles. Take an easy walk afterwards on the site teaming with wildlife especially the big tortoises walking freely everywhere. Kerameikos is still a site with ongoing research. Walk down the Sacred Way a little which was used by ancient locals heading for the Eleusis ancient initiation rites.
