Terrific location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Tremendous value given the breadth of breakfast menu that was included. This location could not be more central to what we came here to see. Metro stop 60 yards away. When we asked for extra towels they were at our door in 3 minutes. Would return here and will refer friends here without hesitation.

Fantastic location. People at reception were very helpful, especially Akis who helped us find the best restaurant in the area. The young bartender was very friendly and even refused out tip! The building is a bit old but you can't beat the location right next to the Museum and the entrance to the Acropolis.

On my sixth trip to Athens in 20 years, I know that deciding on the location of a hotel is critically important for a short stay. This hotel review comes after some time of sustained travelling. The Airotel Parthenon is ideal for all of the inner city attractions. When you arrive at Athens airport, which is a considerable distance from the city centre, have some Euros and buy a metro ticket (discount for two people travelling together) at the airport kiosk and the hotel is readily accessible by the blue line Metro direct to Syntagna Square and then the one easy change over to the red line alighting at the Akropoli. Stepping out of the subway turn right and the hotel is just around a corner approximately 100 meters away. Anyone will tell you immediately where it is. It is on a delightful (and shaded) walking street with sidewalk cafes. And the Acropolis is right in front of you. The location will be the best you can find for serious sightseeing but being 79 rooms it was well patronised for the peak season.

The hotel rates as a 4 star which is a little kind, but certainly well as a 3 1/2 star, and it over delivers in many aspects. We spent time pre-assessing all of the hotels in this neighbourhood and were thoroughly satisfied with our choice at the price point, booking at a good rate with Expedia. The room was adequate, good bedding and reasonable size for a European hotel of this grading. The bathroom could do with some renovation but was acceptable and clean. The reception staff were excellent and helpful with all inquiries and there were complementary drinks and some snacks in the lobby area. There is no pool but does one come to Athens to swim ?

Apart from the superb location, the breakfast was outstanding for a European city. It is worth taking the breakfast option. Offering a wide range, a large dining room, it was replenished constantly as the hotel is well patronised. Good for a leisurely breakfast and with reasonable coffee. There was a wide range of all the usual European breakfast choices and of good quality. The Greek yoghurt and the honey were delicious. An early departure on our fourth day saw them open the dining room up especially for us at 6 am.

The hotel is well placed for sightseeing. A short walk takes you through the Plaka and into Syntagna Square. Outside the hotel is the Acropolis within minutes. There are truly a large number of dining options in all directions from the hotel. Many at very reasonable prices and some that are up market - your choice. As usual for Athens, the house wine is cheap and very drinkable in 500ml carafes and the beers are a foil for the heat.

Most significantly, use the Hop On Hop Off tourist bus. A one day ticket enables you to use it for a second complementary day, so purchase early rather than last day. This bus route is ideal to orientate oneself, then easily used several further times, getting on and off a number of times, and taking in all the significant sights of the city. It is ideal for the museums a little way from the centre of Athens. Also the Olympic stadium, palace and government buildings, changing the guards, the fresh markets, the shopping streets, fringing the Plaka, the many interesting squares. The route is well thought through. And it's use allows easy access to and from the Acropolis which will take up half a day alone. Additionally, the very new and superb Acropolis museum is right beside the hotel. The bus departs from Syntagna but there is a stop less than 100 meters from the Airotel hotel.

If after Athens you are travelling to Pireaus for a ferry to the islands, do not worry about using the Metro, although this is possible. The early morning metered taxi took us 30 minutes directly from the hotel to the port in no time, metered price and dropped us right at the correct ferry berth - which is otherwise a reasonable walk (with suitcases) from the metro. This is important because the ferries are usually crowded, there are lines of passengers, and an entrance way to negotiate without having already walked a distance from the metro terminal. Enjoy your holiday in Athens at the Airotel Parthenon before departing for the idyllic islands

Room Tip: Away from the street is desirable on Upper Level (5th floor), quiet, adequate lift available

Centrally located hotel and the Akropoli subway station is 2-5 minutes walking distance.

Step out of the hotel and take a left and go left again to Acropolis/Parthenon and Acropolis museum in just 5 minutes.
Step out of the hotel, take a left and then a right to go to the temple of Olympian Zeus and the gate of Herodotus.

Although I would have appreciated an email about how to commute to the hotel at least a day before my travel and not after my arrival to the hotel (I had sent an email 3 days before my travel).

Lifts are a bit old style with a door but that is fine.
Rooms are neat and clean and spacious. I had a balcony too on the 5th floor. No view of the Acropolis though. Comfortable beds. Flat screens and tea/coffee making facility in the room.

This hotel participates in the Greek breakfast initiative by the Hellinic chamber of hotels but the hot stuff is very basic (served from 7-10am). only 2 kinds of fruits- more options will be appreciated.

Staff is very friendly and helpful in the entire hotel.
Cost is a bit higher....in general in Athens as compared to other European cities....especially from end June-mid Sept....so, accordingly plan your vacation.

Lots of restaurants around the hotel and souvenir shops too. I suggest that you buy souvenirs in Monastiraki area.

I stayed at the Hotel in May 2013 for 5 nights. The location is excellent to roam the city, walking distance from most of the attractions and 2 minutes from the metro station.
Rooms are good, our double bed was 2 mattresses, which was fixed once we asked for a single mattress. Staff is courteous and helpful.
Breakfast spread was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a single mattress double bed in advance if needed

Great choice if you are looking for a place in the middle of things! It was roomy, clean and breakfast was great. I had a balcony on the third floor.

I was so very close to the Parthenon and the markets. Lots of places to eat. Public transportation was very close by (though I did use a taxi for the airport). I even went to one of the beaches near town for the afternoon.

This was a layover on my way to Crete.
