“Family Night in Athens (in transit to Islands)”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Excellent location and warm welcome, happy to accommodate a family of four in two adjoining rooms - within walking distance to all the sights and restaurants in Plaka and around. Friendly staff and breakfast available very early which was great as we were off to Paros very early.

Dear Dobbsie
Thank you for choosing Hermes hotel for your stop over to Athens. I am glad you enjoyed our family adjoining rooms, location and friendly staff. Our rich buffet breakfast is offered from 7am to 10am, but as you experienced we also offer continental breakfast to our precious guests who need to check out earlier. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again.
Best regards

The location is excellent for visiting the major touristic sites on foot. We arrived late, every night, at the hotel and we never felt apprehensive. The breakfast is great, varied and every day has a staff member giving suggestions for tours. The rooms are clean and comfortable, except for the shower that wet the entire floor. The staff is attentive and friendly.

Room Tip: We stayed at 3rd floor and it was great.

We stayed at the Hermes for three nights while in Athens. It was a wonderful stay. I can't think of a negative thing to say regarding this establishment.

Regarding the positives, I'll begin with the fact that it was a relatively easy ride from the airport on the metro (each of us with a piece of luggage and a handbag) to Syntagma square. Then a short walk to the hotel. Subsequently, we had no further use for the metro as the hotel is so strategically located and Athens is such a walkable city. We walked everywhere......the Acropolis, the temple of Zeus, Monastiraki, the Byzantine Museum etc etc etc.

The room was clean and comfortable. Perhaps the fact that we had a balcony helped to add to the feeling of spaciousness in our room. We never felt cramped in the least. The bathroom was also a nice size and had great water pressure.

I'll echo the sentiments of others regarding the hotel breakfast. So many wonderful creations from which to choose. It was a great way to begin each day.

We also benefited greatly from the wonderful and friendly young woman who assisted the guests each morning at breakfast with their plans for the day. We indicated to her the day before we left that we'd need a taxi to the airport the next morning. She wrote down our information and by that evening the taxi had already been ordered. That is such a great help when one is in a foreign land and anxious about missing a flight.

I had read a smattering of complaints in past reviews regarding the size of the elevator at this hotel. My daughter, myself and our luggage managed to fit into the elevator and make the journey up to our 6th floor room when we arrived. After that, we used the elevator daily and never experienced any issues with it and only had to wait for it once I believe.

The computer/printer available to guests in the lobby was a distinct advantage for us as I had opted to leave my electronics at home and this was my lifeline to my husband while away.

The staff was great......desk, breakfast, housekeeping.....all were great. No complaints whatsoever.

To add to the charm of this already quaint hotel was the daily ringing of the nearby church bells. That just really added to the atmosphere for me. Also, the hotel has a rooftop terrace that does have a view of the Acropolis. It is not a perfect view. There are a few obstructions, but we found it to be satisfactory and didn't even bother utilizing the rooftop of their sister hotel.

We would most certainly stay at this hotel again and so hope we get a chance to do so someday. I highly recommend the Hermes.

Dear mjhoffman
Our "smile " and "hospitality" is what sets us apart . The fact that Hermes hotel is, in addition to gstratigic location and a family run hotel thus giving the staff the opportunity to be trained in hospitality directly by the owners! Thank your for recognizing the effort; we will certainly pass on to our team your remarks who will be thrilled by your compliments.
Your detailed review I am sure will be of great help to other TripAdviisor readers.
We surely look forward seeing soon again.
Best regards to your daughter.

We stayed at Hermes Hotel for 2 nights. Location was good for exploring the city, though the neighbourhood did not feel the safest at night. The room was a little dated, but we did not really mind as it was clean. Wifi connection was rather poor and intermittent, my WhatsApp messages couldn't go through half of the time. The breakfast spread was great. All in all, we enjoyed our stay there.

Dear estellbyul
We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay at Hermes hotel especialy cleanliness and our rich buffet breakfast. As for the area, Plaka is the safest in Athens and the fact that there is not a lot of light at night, as the shops are closed, this does not affect the safety. In our attempt to improve we surely value all the feedback we can get from our guests. Hope to see you again.
Best regards.

Location: Very good.
Service: Great.
Cleanness: Bad. Cockroaches found in lobby.
Rooms: Tinny, small beds, small bathroom. Uncomfortable.
Internet: Free but does not work from your room !!!!!! ...
Value: awful. The price is to hight compared to the value delivered.
I want to highlight that my rating is based on the negative value for money (high price and low quality of rooms, facilities and essential services).
I bet there might be some other better hotels in the are at a better price.

Our family of four had the family suite, a room for the parents and one for our teens connected by a door. The facilities were good and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Hermes is a hotel which is clearly pulling out all the stops to make clients comfortable and welcome. Excellent value and would definitely recommend for a brief stay in Athens.

Our family of four stayed for two nights at the Hermes Hotel, July 7-9, 2014. We had two rooms that were next to each other with an outside door that could be locked. We arrived very early in the morning as we came from Santorini (a must if you are going to Greece!). Anyway, we were greeted by the lovely Margarita at the front desk. She could not have been any nicer. She told us our rooms were not ready, but that they would lock up our luggage and valuables in the safe. She then told us that we were welcome to the complimentary breakfast because it was still being served. We were hungry as we had gotten up at 4:30 in the morning to get to the airport to check in for our flight and had not eaten. Their breakfast here is very, very good. The lobby is very nice and has a computer so you can check in for your flights. The rooms were clean and nice. The location was excellent and we walked to the Acropolis and all the sights around it. We would definately stay at this hotel again!
