“A functional hotel and not much else”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

We stayed in the Hotel Alma (having not checked Trip Advisor first because I wasn't the one booking), and to be honest, its not a great hotel.

The location is in a reasonably poor but improving area, but due to the high number of students and anarchists in Omonia, there is often trouble. On the night we arrived, a protest had turned sour and the taxi driver was adamant he wouldn't drop us at the hotel. After some arguing, he dropped us round the back but for the next couple of days, there was tear gas (or some other chemical) in the air that burned our eyes.

The hotel itself is functional, but the rooms are small, the air con did almost nothing and meant that we had to endure the constant noise of Athens traffic as we had to sleep with the door to the balcony open.

Breakfast is the usual continental fare, but I am sure you could find better breakfasts and in fact better hotels, in better locations for less money.

Never go there! We got a room that was creepy. There were bloody rags on window sill and drug synergys in toilet. Only a cardboard sheet windows, and someone screaming outside our window. We had to change hotel. Insecure and disgusting hotel even during the day, so we couldn´t stay there.

This hotel was booked through travel agency in Greece based on locatio and price, which were reasonable. It is located by Omonia Square ,which is only three subway stops from Acropolis. We were shocked by the appearance of the hotel and it's lobby. It reminded more of a homeless shelter. The area was surrounded by drugg addicts, drunks. When we entered the hotel, the concierge was very unfriendly, and on the top of that the fight was going on on the floor below, unattended kids were running around, screaming. The view from our room was just atrocious, it reminded bombed down war zone. The room itself was relatively clean. The relieve was that we only had to stay there for one night!

The Alma is handy if arriving at Kifissou 100 bus station (its close to local bus 51 route) or Syndagma (15 mins). Good reductions available off-season but the peak rate of 100 Euros for our twin room is ridiculous. The room was ok and bathroom above average for Greece budget accommodation (it had a shower curtain) but the problem is the location. This is a really dodgy part of town with many closed shops and some drug activity seen. Not recommended for single travellers.

This hotel is central, by Omonia Square, and not too noisy. It's basic but everything worked and was clean. Yes the 'breakfast' of toast and coffee is poor but no we saw no drug taking at all in 5 days there. It's safe and the restaurant next door reasonable.

Obviously, there is nothing to add. 20 euro per night is a good price, especially, when the hotel is in the city center. For me it was a base for city trip, so I've arrived there at night. Omonia square is famous to be dangerous at night, and I've experienced evil looks from homeless, drug addicts, simply drunk and street thiefs.
Hotel is fine - you can come 24 hours a day. Room is small, but rather clean. It is little noisy outside, but not dramatically.

I went to this hotel with my sister, we are both female in our mid 20's. I arrived at this hotel with very very very low expectations, because of reading other reviews. i was expecting a dirty room in a hotel in a druggy infested alleyway. the room was clean but the alleyway was indeed full of people on drugs, men urinating in the street then trying to chat you up. it wasnt pleasant to say the least.

The room itself was suprisingly clean. to say it was lovely would be lying, but it was bearable. there was a good fan to deal with the heat of the athens day. Breakfast was pure rubbish... there was stale bread and jam, and some weak juice or water. it was amazingly terrible. and we paid 8euros for that!

i wouldnt book this hotel if yo have a choice, but if you have already booked dont panik like i did, it is just about bearable!
