Our family had booked a two night stay at the King George on 8th and 9th August 2014 the culmination of three nights in Venice and a seven night cruise. The bedroom suites and restaurant with the amazing views were first class. All the staff we met were extremely helpful and very welcoming and friendly. The food for both breakfast and supper was superb. Unfortunately on the last day at breakfast my husband was taken ill and was rushed to hospital where he remained for three day until being permitted to fly home. During this period the generosity of spirit from ALL THE STAFF WAS TOTALLY AND UTTERLY OVERWHELMING AND I CANNOT RATE THEM HIGH ENOUGH. We shall definitely return to the King George.

Room Tip: Peace and quiet an atrium room. A/C very good with no noise and dimmer lights in rooms are a wonder...

After enduring the limitations of the plumbing system in Santorini, it was refreshing to be in a facility that offered a luxurious and "full service" bathroom with thick white towels and a real hot shower. We stayed in a standard, courtyard view room which was elegantly appointed with beautiful furniture, lovely art and high fiber count linens. However, others planning to spend some time at the King George should know that the "enchanting courtyard view" is anything but enchanting-- and it's a stretch to even call it a view. Basically, if you opt for a standard room, expect drapery over darkness. You face another building. So, if natural sunlight is your thing, spring for a more expensive view. If you just want a beautiful and luxuriously appointed place to relax after a day of touring in hot, dusty, graffiti-laden Athens, the standard room is just fine.

It is seldom that breakfast is the highlight of an hotel stay but here it is with a magical view under the Acropolis from the rooftop dining room. The food was good too.
Our small suite was spacious but had a very strange layout with a small corridor between the bedroom and sitting room and no view apart from an undistinguished building next door. Hence it as rather dark. All in all the location and the breakfast will bring us back.

Room Tip: plaza facing rooms might be nosier but the rooms in the back are a bit gloomy.

We stayed a night at Grand Bretagne the day before and then moved to this hotel. Wow! What a difference in experience. Everything from check in to check out felt luxurious and warm. The staff are far better trained than the ones next door or maybe they care more. We got upgraded from a standard room to a delux suite that was really nice and big. We didn't eat at the restaurant so I cannot comment. Bottom line is if I'm back in athens I will stay here over GB.

Great hotel in the middle of Athens. Close to historical sites, restaurants n shopping center; all within walking distance. The staffs were very accommodating n tentative. Restaurant on the 7th floor with the view of the Acropolis is a must. Food was great. We had the suite with the Acropolis view. It was an amazing experience.

We stayed 3 nights at the King George when we first arrived in Greece, then another night at the end of our trip. We booked three rooms (we are a family of 6) and have only good things to say about this establishment. Having the opportunity to see six rooms for myself, I can say without hesitation that this hotel is perfect. Your first impression begins with friendly and professional doormen and you are never let down after that. The front desk staff always greeted us with a smile, the hotel lobby is beautifully appointed and our rooms were efficiently cleaned and turned down by the housekeeping staff. The location of the hotel is fantastic; we found ourselves very comfortable heading out to the surrounding streets, where good food is easily found.

At the first leg of our vacation, our rooms were on the side of the hotel facing Syntagma Square, with the Parliament building to our left. Our children had rooms on a lower floor, and, being teenagers, they enjoyed the sounds of the City. While the noise level wasn't troublesome for me or my husband, and having a view of the lit Acropolis from our windows was certainly worth hearing a bit of traffic, it should be noted that the other side of the hotel is, indeed, much quieter. After visiting a couple of islands, being on this side of the hotel on the night before our flight home was a welcome respite -- to check into impeccably clean and quiet rooms was very much appreciated. Should we return to Greece (and I hope we do) I might actually request the backside of the hotel for our stay. There are ample opportunities to take advantage of views of the Acropolis, and a good night's rest is a bit higher on my priority list.

All of our rooms were lovely, the linens were high quality and the bathrooms were gorgeous. I actually found myself regretting the tile choice I made for a recent home renovation... had I only seen those bathrooms first! There is nothing that one should need while staying at The King George. Each room had an alarm clock, high quality TVs, snacks, a minibar, robes, hair dryer, soaps and lotions (olive oil, of course -- I wish I had some now, they were fantastic!)

The hotel's restaurant adds to the luxury of the hotel, with an open air patio that has views of the Acropolis. The wait staff was courteous and attentive -- we very much enjoyed the space and the food (and the cocktails.) It's a white tablecloth environment with white tablecloth service without feeling at all pretentious.

I am grateful that our travel agent, Jana from Aegean Thesaurus, recommended this hotel for our stay. It was a wonderful way to begin (and end) our visit to Greece.

Room Tip: You will hear the hustle and bustle of Syntagma Square while on the Acropolis-facing side of the hot...

We stayed here 10 days in July - Aug., staying in two different rooms: long enough to see and feel what the "normal" guest experience is. We give the highest marks to the King George across-the- board - from the doormen, to reception, to housekeeping, to restaurant staff. The attention to detail here is incomparable (ex.: warming the milk for your coffee so it doesn't cool off before your first sip!). Whatever you want or need is provided as fast as can be - and there's a follow up: "Did you get what you requested?" The staff always greeted us and were genuinely glad to see us.

The restaurant is the Tudor: breakfast here is not to be missed: wonderful food on the terrace overlooking the acropolis, Syntagma square and Parliament. We had lunch and dinner here also and on every occasion the food and service were wonderful. The restaurant decor is absolutely beautiful with fresh flowers on a central table and on each individual table.

This hotel has the same management as its sister property next door, The Grande Bretagne, which explains its excellence (and why we tried the KIng George).. We've stayed at the GB several times - a truly wonderful and historic property. The great thing is that by staying at one, you get access to the best of both--fabulous! The difference between the experiences at these properties is the difference between a larger hotel and a more boutique experience (King George) which appeals to us, with its more intimate, personal feel. We will be staying here at our next visit to Athens!

Room Tip: A room on the acropolis side is wonderful, but there are not a huge number of these. If staying for...
