“Good Place for a Lunch Break from Touring”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

The Plaka is a large marketplace. I'm sure at one time it was the central marketplace for Athenians. Today is it somewhat of a tourist attraction. There are many restaurants (indoors and outdoors) to take a lunch break from your tour of the historical attractions. It is pretty much a tourist trap now. Food and service were O.K. at the place our tour guide suggested. Authentic Greek food is available, of course, but also pizza, etc. This is the place, if you want to have your picture taken with a camel or buy an "authentic fake Rolex".

“A place to rub shoulders with the rest of the world”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

Plaka, the oldest section of Athens is well worth a visit. At times grimy and noisy, it is still a fun place to be. Sounds, smells, a plurality of nations, nooks and crannies everywhere give up small treasures that makes the place alive and vibrant. Recommended.

“Fun, Fun, Fun!!!”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

I loved the Plaka in Athens , Greece. We took a long stroll there when we first arrived in Athens and I had a glass of wine at an outdoor cafe!! We walked and walked and just enjoyed the beauty of Athens, the doors, the balconies and the flowers!! We went back to the Plaka the second night of our stay and walked around and had dessert at a rooftop bar!! I will say that it is a touristy area and at night it got a little obnoxious with girls trying to sell flowers and etc. I would compare it to the Main Street in St. Augustine , FL. Lots of musicians, peddlers and street people!! With that said I still loved it and cannot wait to go back ASAP!!!

“Shopping and Dining at its best”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

The Plaka is the tourist area with small narrow streets of shops and restaurants intertwined amongst the ruins. You will hear music playing at many of the cafes and there are several shops that sell musical instruments. At night, this is where you want to be for the nightlife fun, and looking up at the Acropolis and Parthenon all lit up is a beautiful site.
