I guess anyone visiting Athens must see this. The restaurants, with their 'hawkers' pulling you in, are average at best.

Some of the shops have some interesting things; many have nothing more than junk.

This area has been filled with tourists due to its proximity to the Acropolis. However, for those who seek a differentiated experience, you should meander into the little streets, or to correctly put it, dirt road.
Go beyond the touristy restaurants towards Anafiotika. There are uneven paths with old houses, similar to the villages in the (quieter) Greek islands. Charming and it'll be peaceful. But be careful the paths are narrow and uneven. Also, Stumbled upon some neat graffiti.

On our last day, we decided to listen to our hotel and visit Plaka area during the day-time. It was pretty nice to walk around the streets. There are cafes, restaurants and shops surrounding the streets and it's peaceful. I don't know what it looks like at night, but I liked walking there in the morning.

The Plaka is an area of Athens with winding streets filled with souvenir shops and numerous restaurants and tavernas. Despite its touristy feel, it remains charming and a lovely place to shop and have a leisurely mean or drink.
