“Small fashion disaster but Good value, location and clean.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2011

Located on a busy corner of down-town of Athens a 20 minute slow bimble/walk away from the tourist area. Inside looks a little like the interior designer had been going for the "older aunty trying to be hip" look? Interior fashion disaster aside, it was clean and the staff friendly and attentive.

My room 610 faced the road but with good double glazing no real problems from the constant traffic. Be careful with the air-con setting, not a complaint but first night I almost freeze dried myself, just set it to low and it will save you getting frostbite. Standard hotel layout, clean bathroom and nice selection of shampoos. TV English channels limited to CNN and BBC news, (the other channels where all just Greek to me) the pay for view has a good selection of the latest movie's, however high cost. FREE Internet via plug in cable is hidden behind the TV.

Breakfast had a reasonable selection, hot and fresh (nice chefs special eggs), only comment is the single DIY orange juice maker and the queue of people waiting to use it.

In all, one of my better hotel experiences, Good value, location and clean. One last point, before travelling I read in other reviews on TA that the beds are little hard, agree mine was firm and there where lots of fluffy pillows, I slept like a log....

Room Tip: Smile and be polite to the reception person!

The hotel is very nice with good value for the price paid, but the breakfast was not worth the effort to stick around for. This was partially because two large tour groups had ravaged the place prior to our arrival. The staff were trying their hardest to keep up but not an easy task. The room was comfortable and nice, while the hotel location was good. There is easy access to the metro nearby. Parking was easy as a secure garage was offered.

Have been to Athens 3 times and have stayed here twice. If you want a modern style hotel with a great breakfast that is reasonably priced then this is the place. It is 2 train stops from Syndagma but we always walked. It is only 10 minutes walk from the outskirts of the Plaka so once you get to that point there are shops and restaurants to brouse at. It is also only 10 mins walk to the Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis which is a must whilst in Athens. There is a restaurant/bar on the roof of the hotel which you must go to at night and have a drink, the view of the Parthenon all lit up is spectacular. The rooms are reasonable in size and the beds and bathroom are comfortable. We have 3 teenage kids who had there own room however I didn't see many families with infants. There are probably more appropriate hotels in Athens to stay at if you have small children.

This hotel is in a good location, easy to get to shopping, restaurants, sights. It was very clean, the bathroom was spotless, the staff at the front desk, restaurant and bar were all very helpful. The breakfast was excellent.
3 euros for 30 mins on computer in the front lobby.
Wireless only worked in the front lobby.

We got introduced to this hotel through our travel agency & had booked it for our stay during the honeymoon trip to Greece. The hotel is centrally located & is well connected by Metro & Tram stations nearby. The rooms are cozy & the food at the Cafe Deligi Restaurant is amazing. Truly njoyed a candle light dinner with my wife there.

Keeing it short, we stayed here on two occasions a week apart bookending an REI trip. Breakfast was good and the bar was nice. The rooms were fine except the beds. The shower was poorly designed. Didnt get to go to the rooftop garden because of the weather.

We arrived at the hotel having taken a domestic flight from Santorini and were to spend a week at the Callirhoe. First impressions upon arrival were positive- the hotel interior is almost boutique in its style; nicely furnished and smart. Having said this, I could not help but have my eyes drawn to the wall displaying the hotel stars, and noticing that one had been chalked off- clearly the hotel had at some point been downgraded from a 5 to a 4 star hotel. This did not affect our stay, however, but merely made us wonder what had prompted the loss of the star.

Having been checked in, we were taken to what we thought was our room; a non-smoking double. However, upon opening the door, we discovered that we had been incorrectly allocated a twin smoking room! As was to be expected, the management corrected the mistake within half an hour or so, and despite the whole affair being somewhat of an inconvenience, the matter was dealt with swiftly and effectively. Moreover, my girlfriend suffers from an allergy to feather pillows, and, although the hotel did not possess hypo-alergic ones, housekeeping managed to produce an effective and successful alternative. This quick thinking demonstrated how the staff were able to use their ingenuity in a genuine attempt to make our stay as pleasant and carefree as possible.

The room itself was well appointed, the bed was very comfortable and we had a large window overlooking the main road. Problem, some of you may think, however, rest assured that the glass was extremely thick and we did not hear so much as a peep from outside!

The bathroom was tasteful too, and thankfully had a powerful enough flush, unlike the typical Greek toilet! Need I go into any more detail? This was a welcome change from Santorini.

Breakfasts were buffet-style with fresh juice to hand, as well as various cheeses, rolls, meats, fruits, yoghurts and eggs. Essentiallly a standard continental breakfast buffet, but well presented and tasty.

Those staffing the reception desk were genial and polite; we often consulted them for booking taxis (although a taxi rank was nearby the hotel, most of the drivers did not speak English making journeys rather difficult) and restaurant suggestions. As was to be expected, the staff secured our luggage on our last day after check-out so that we could continue some last-minute sightseeing.

Finally, for those of you so inclined, the gym is small but contains most of the essential equipment and a relaxing sauna, both of which we used during our stay.

Overall, in choosing the Callirhoe hotel, one is making a fine choice. Despite the fact that the location is not absolutely in the centre of Athens (arguably Syntagma), it is only a few metro stops from there which provides the chance to use the Athenian metro, which could teach our London Underground a few lessons!

As mentioned above, the hotel is well appointed throughout, the standard of breakfast was relatively high, and the service was attentive, efficient and unobtrusive. I would certainly suggest that anyone seeking a broadly-speaking upmarket hotel in Athens consider the Callirhoe; we would certainly consider returning should the opporunity arise.
