Marina Hotel Athens

Reviewed 29 October 2013

the hotel was excellent value for the rate, although the area was not initially encouraging I became used to it and it was easy to walk to and from all the Athens sites, at any hour. It offered me the ability to see all of Athens not just live in the tourist area.
The rooms were clean, staff generous and charming, beds comfortable, excellent wifi.
I highly recommend.

Good hotel inside. Area it is located is a bit run-down, although safe enough, but once inside the staff are friendly and the hotel is clean with everything working. Good buffet breakfast. Central location, near Omonia Square. Would not suit a person fussy about the location, but good value and slept well.

Bad neighborhood but very close to the port if you are in transit. Uncomfortable bed and dirty room - I unfolded the sheet to sleep and bug shells fell out! Scuffed walls, ugh, please don't stay here. I am positive there is a better experience out there!!

return visit so I knew that the hotel is not in the best area of Athens - that said even at 11pm I felt safe to pop out to the shop for a bottle of water

the reception is welcoming and helpful, the hotel is clean, the room is comfortable, there is free wi fi , and the breakfast was better than expected for the price

overall this hotel offered extremely good value

Room Tip: have allways had a room to the back of the hotel - allways quiet

This hotel is situated in decayed area of Athens. There are junkies, drug dealing, people injecting themselves at night & in broad daylight, as well as prostitutes. The police constantly patrol this god forsaken area, with bullet-proof vests. The hotel does not specify the exact location for this reason. They just write that its in the city centre. Look up omonia. This is the worst part, the most unsafe area of Athens. Although the hotel is satisfactory for the area its in, its not worth your safety. Its very dangerous & we do not reconmend going anywhere near this area. Stay as far away from it as possible. If u must go to athens, stay in Plaka. This is where all the decent pics are coming from, thats the only area that doesn't look too trashed.

Hotel is located in Omonia which is a rather poor part of Athens with a high percentage of crime and illegal immigrants. Its on a small street (Voulgari) which seems rather shabby, but its close to Omonia Square which is a hotspot for public transportation in the city.

Hotel itself is very basic. I would recommend it for a short stay - triple rooms are actually double rooms with a day-bed, and I personally wont recommend staying more than 2 people in one room since its not really that spacious.

Staff is very friendly and most of them are pretty fluent in english. They are very willing to help you with information regarding sightseeing, restaurants and so on.

Breakfast also pretty basic, but not bad at all - include this in your stay if you dont want to roam around for a bakery early in the morning. Rates are very reasonable.

I recommend this hotel for a short stay on a budget with no more than two people staying in one room. If you are anxious around immigrants and shady streets, pick a hotel in Syntagma, Metaxourgio or another part of the city instead.

The staff is very friendly and always ready to help you..The rooms are big enough and the breakfast is decent. The location is a bit scary after 10pm but after 1-2 days you get used to it and you dont pay attention.
