Description: A traditional and quant Cafe - Restaurant located in the very heart of Plaka A whole era comes alive for the visitors who wonder around the alleys and the cobbled streats of the picturesque and oldest neighborhood of Athens, Plaka. Among the historic neighborhoods and crowded alleys, you can discover "Anafiotika". No no, we are not talking about Anafiotika area, but about our very own "Anafiotika" !!! The traditional Cafe - Restaurant, as our patrons and visitors call it, "Anafiotika" makes an exception in the street of Mnisikleous and Thrasivoulou. The famous "stairs" as you may have heard!

We came across this restaurant by mistake (and what a perfect mistake it was). We were walking around the Plaka when Anna stopped us and asked us if we wanted to have a table. I initially thought this is a tourist trap and responded with the standard "we will be back". After walking for a few more minutes, we did end up back there, and it was good we did. First of all the service, the place was PACKED, yet the staff was able to take everyone's order and not one table was complaining. Second of all, the drinks and food are excellent. Third, the vibe of the place is great. The owner and staff have done a great job with this place. If anyone wants a cozy, quiet table, ask for the table on the balcony upstairs!

We went to Anafiotika because of Trip Advisor recommendations and were not disappointed. This is such a unique section of Athens, where all the young people go to be seen. The hostess and wait staff were exceptional. In Greece, appetizers are call Mezes or small plates; however, many of these small plates are enough for a meal. We ordered the white barrel (house) wine and with it were served pitas and olive paste. I ordered two appetizers: spinach pie and the grilled vegetables while my husband ordered cod. My appetizers were delicious! My husband said he cod was good, but nothing special. Following dinner, we were served complimentary after dinner drinks and dessert. The area is fun; we ate outside and enjoyed all the people congregated at various restaurants up and down the steps (see photos). Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

We were staying near the Acropolis and were looking for authentic Greek food at reasonable prices. We were so lucky to stumble upon this restaurant. The restaurant is located on a stepped-terrace area meaning tables are successively higher than the ones in front of them. At night, this makes for a festive, gorgeous and cozy site. The neighborhood is old with narrow streets and small businesses and gives you the feel of being transported back into Old Greece.

The food: Delicious! The Greek salads are generously portioned (we split ours) and are delicious. Best Greek salad I've had in my entire life. The meat sampler plate was overwhelming, even for two, but delicious nonetheless. Fried feta cheese with honey for dessert was immaculate. The wine was ok, although cheap. At the end, we were served complimentary desserts (a type of ice cream with fresh Greek jam-esque sauce) and shots of a Greek liquour. The atmosphere is cozy. If you're not comfortable with people sitting right next to you and behind you, look elsewhere. We didn't mind and still had a romantic dinner in a lively and cozy setting. You can tell that the food is real by the massive amount of locals sitting for hours at their tables. If you want to sit at the picturesque terrace spot, it may be worth coming a little early (before 8 pm) to claim a spot. We saw too many visitors being turned away for lack of sitting space. If it's your first time and you don't want to break the bank trying authentic Greek cuisine but still want a good-quality experience, this is the place to go!! Would come back in a heartbeat.
