If you are considering a tour company for a visit to Greece, we highly recommend Athens Insider. They arranged five activities for us, and we enjoyed every one of them. They took excellent care of us, both in preparing for the trip and during the different excursions.

The day trip from Athens to Sounio was the highlight of our trip. Our driver Yannis was outstanding — we enjoyed our time with him as much as the sites themselves. He was a careful driver, very considerate of us and everyone on the road around us. He helped us to get to know Greece and appreciate the warmth and hospitality of its people. He added a number of little touches to our trip that made it feel very personal to us.

Sounio at sunset was awe-inspiring, and visiting in late November made it all the better. We had no crowds, mild temperatures, an early sunset and just enough clouds to make the most spectacular sunset. The temple itself is only a few columns, but the site, the view, the sense of history and the sunset made it well worth the trip.

Our family of 4 took the Flavor of Athens Tour with Chef Yorgos as soon as we hit the ground in Athens. Yorgos has deep experience in the food scene having spent many years as a both a fine dining chef and a private chef in the Greek islands. You could not find a better insider to show you the gems of the city. If you’re a foodie you NEED to connect with Yorgos for this tour. We would highly recommend this to anyone who is a food lover and wants a truly authentic experience.

We met George in the lobby of our hotel and walked to the market where we learned how to choose the freshest meat and fish. After purchasing a few items for our meal we walked to the kitchen and were soon engaged in hands-on preparation of delicious fried meatballs, eggplant dip and cheese pie triangles. Recipes came home with us. Yum!

I was afraid this was going to be a lot of over-eating and I had already been doing that for 2 weeks. George did a great job! It was a perfect combination of small tastes, local food knowledge and walking the streets of Athens. We began at a charming small coffee shop to taste Greek coffee, frappe, teas, orange cake and baklava. Went on from there to central market, then nuts and spices, then a family run shop for mezzo and grappa, finishing with a souvlaki lunch at Thanasis Restaurant. George's knowledge of Greek food and connection to culture was a highlight.

My wife and I went on this tour with Yannis and it was phenomenal. All of the stops and recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed everything from the food, the sights seen, and the company. It felt more like spending time with a friend than a food tour. He was very knowledgeable about both the history and the food. We wish we would have done this tour the first day we were here.
I recommend this tour to everyone. I wish I could go on it again.
