“Love the rooftop bar”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2009

Got a rec for this hotel through a friend who lives in Athens. It is in a good location, although the neighborhood may be shocking to some.

It is sort of a design hotel, so some interior features are funny and interesting. The rooftop bar is a great spot before dinner. There's a pool there as well. Did not try it as this was a bit late in the year.

Fresh is not a luxury hotel, but I'd say its a good choice for anyone who don't need the final luxury touch. It is also somewhat "funny" and "young".

The Fresh Hotel was our home base for 4 days while in Athens. It truly was a refreshing oasis to come back to after hot hot days spent sight-seeing.

The location was a little surprising; tucked away and easy to miss. But after getting our bearings, it turned out to be perfect. It's an easy walk down to the Plaka/Acropolis, or in the other direction to Omonoia and the National Gallery. While the streets have a touch of 'seediness', we felt quite safe, even when wandering back to the hotel after late dinners in the Plaka.

We found the room to be a good size (especially by European standards!), and loved the bathroom. Very modern/simple design, with great fixtures. By big-city boutique hotel standards, this hotel is quite decently priced, and well worth it.

Perhaps the best features of the hotel (for summer stays anyway) are the rooftop lounge and pool. The pool is the mecca for chic sunbathers during the day (until kids show up and go crazy in the lap pool...), and you MUST spend at least one night having dinner and drinks there as well. The pool deck is transformed into a great romantic spot to have dinner. If you appreciate modern design, fabulous food, and a stunning view of the Parthenon all lit up at night, this is not to be missed.

There's much more to say, but I can simply state that we had a great stay, and would certainly stay there again if back in Athens. This is a city hotel (not a resort), and by those standards it is excellent.

  • Liked — Great design; rooftop pool and lounge
  • Disliked — no restaurant open for a late breakfast or lunch

My husband and I stayed at the Fresh Hotel for one night in October. We have never stayed in a hotel in Athens (as we normally stay with friends) and this was a very pleasant first experience.

The location of the hotel is excellent; very close to Plaka and the Acropolis and generally very central. We were not bothered by the "seediness" of the area and never felt unsafe.

The hotel itself is very clean, white, and trendy. The room, although small, was comfortable and the Korres bathroom products were a nice touch. Breakfast the next morning was better than expected - good range of fresh fruits, cheeses, hams, pastries, breads, and cereals, along with hot foods e.g. eggs, bacon, baked beans, etc. The staff were also friendly and helpful.

The best thing about this hotel has got to be their outdoor roof terrace, the "air lounge". What a fanastic place to have a drink with a view of the Acropolis! We had both cocktails and coffee and everything was very nice.

All in all, I would highly recommend the Fresh Hotel and when I am next in Athens I will definitely be staying here again. Book it - you won't regret it.

  • Liked — The air lounge and the hotel itself
  • Disliked — Small-ish rooms but this was not bad at all

I have stayed in a number of different hotels in Athens but the Fresh rates as one of my favourites. Second to none location - 10-minute walk from Monastiraki Metro station which means direct access to the airport, as well as 5-minute walk from Omonoia. Syntagma is a 15-20 minute walk away. All the ancient city sights are within walking distance. The hotel itself is very modern. The rooms are rather small but extremely comfortable and modern. The breakfast was great too. The rooftop pool and bar are a must see! Nothing like a long drink at the end of a summer's day with a view of the fantastic Acropolis and sunset. The only downside for me is that, this is more of a summer hotel than a winter choice - i.e. it doesn't have the "cosyness" that some other hotels do.

  • Liked — Modern Design!
  • Disliked — Views from the rooms looking into the central courtyard bit.

Design hotel - very cool design. Everything is excellent and absolutely worth the money. Room very, very small - but not less the promised
Very relaxing roof bar with pool and view to town and Akropolis.
Perfectly located - in the middle.

Staying here right now. For the price you would expect the Four Seasons but you have to be realistic. This is Athens like New York so accommodations are way overpriced. That said, the hotel is nice. It definitely looks pretty but don't look too close b/c then you'll see all of the shoddy details and cheap tricks to look chic. This hotel is near the Ommonia station which many locals call the "rough" area. And they're not lying. Athens itself is dirtier than I expected. It's like what New York would have been if they didn't cleanup their act. I really wish they took care of their city more especially with the Olympics being here and all. You'll be fine just travel smart and watch what allies you go into. The hotel is clean, reception is nice and helpful depending upon who you get. Make sure to ask about all of the hotel ammenities. I was checked in pretty nastily b/c I arrived at 9AM and check in wasn't until 2PM. So I didn't find out they had free internet until I started to wander around the hotel myself. They have a gym - which I'll check out tomorrow and a very nice bar on the roof - I slept up there while waiting for my room. Very nice view. Try to get a hotel near Syntagma Square as this is safter and it's exactly where you want to be. Fresh Hotel should be you're backup. It was my backup after Amazon Hotel was overbooked. Pictures to come when I get back.

Great modern decor throughout the hotel with a roof terrace to die for! I stayed here as part of a large group and the hotel seemed to cope quite well with our party and another similar sized party at the same time.

The terrace really does make this hotel with its tiny pool and views of the acropolis. Perfect place for a sundowner.

Room was comfortable with a king bed, small balcony and small shower room. Korres toiletries were good (exactly the same brand as Intercontinental Athens!!) and were replenished daily.

Breakfast was fine with a mix of hot and cold options and great bread. Food and cocktails on the roof terrace were good too.

The location is good and you can easily walk to the Plaka, Acropolis etc. The nearby fish and meat markets are also interesting visits but not for the squeamish.

It was only on my last night that I turned right out of the hotel rather than left and realised the area wasn't quite as pleasant as I had thought with a sex shop right beside the hotel and prostitution rife on one of the side streets, but keep turning left out of the hotel back to the main street and you'll be fine. The area seemed safe enough.

Would recommend for style and central location.

  • Liked — The roof terrace
  • Disliked — Proximity to seedy area.
