“Good enough, but not great”
Reviewed 16 October 2011

The staff at the Melia Athens were quite helpful during the many strikes and protests going on in the city. The room was spacious by European standards and the bed was quite comfortable. The two primary shortcoming of this hotel was the lack of in-room WiFi and the lack of a nice evening restaurant. Also, the main breakfast restaurant was far too expensive, while the cafe had almost no choice for breakfast. The location is borderline-- with unsafe neighborhoods farther from the city center.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to face the street, so it's fortunate that the windows block most of the street n...

Generally disappointing hotel. Uncomfortable small room even though we had made reservations for a family suite. Faced a loud AC unit, low floor and no view. Staff very unhelpful. Would not go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the street.

Recently I have spent two nights in Athens , at the Mellia Hotel . I was deeply impressed by the architectonical beauty of the building and the friendly, as well as extremely efficient staff who , incidentally, acted masterly to meet my needs even after my departure. Its location proved very strategic for me and the service was altogether satisfactory.

I stayed one night at this property and was upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi on arrival - nice room, clean and cable TV. The hotel is a short walk down 28 October street *at National Bank exit* from Ominia Square. Ominia Metro Stations is easily accessible from the Port of Piraeus and only one change at Syngtama from the Airport. the Ominia Metro station is only a couple of blocks away from the hotel.
Great service for dinner where the view in the photo of the acropolis by night is exactly what I saw...had the chicken breast which was awesome. 24 hour reception and taxis waiting at the front of the hotel made my early morning departure easy.

Usually a hotel that is part of the Melia chain has excellent amenities and this one didn't disappoint. I have read so many reviews about the less than desirable location. Actually, the surrounding areas in Athens are pretty much the same with none worse than the others (with the exception of the Plaka). The hotel cafe, Cafe Mondo serves- in my opinion- the best Greek coffee in Athens. Ommonia is heavily patrolled by the police so I actually felt pretty safe in this area. Wifi in the rooms is 8 euros an hour but they have free wi-fi in the lobby. Their gym is quite small but their sauna and steam room is really nice. The rooftop pool and bar is wonderful. It's a short walk from the metro but the place is also a 5 minute walk from Syntagma Square. I would definitely stay here again!

Great hotel. Great staff. Great food. Everyone was wonderful. Don't worry about the location, it is only 2 blocks from the metro station and there were police stationed on the corner. If it is NOT your first time out of the United States, the location will not bother you at all.

Best hotel of Athens! i didn't want to open this secret and keep for myself, but its really hotel made with Great Love! Design of rooms amazing!!! Cypriot designer thought about each small details of room from very well soundproof door and other hidden door inside furniture till marble floors, very comfortable bad and mirrors that made very romantic home atmosphere. In some rooms wall between room and bathroom has window. But you can't see direct trough it-just some shadow of other person in bath. Most rooms has Jacuzzi.I never seen so much space for my clothes in wardrobe! Usually its never enough!Here-you need to bring triple time more luggage to fulfill all space. Table possible to use as bureau when you open middle part and as desk, when closed it.
Nice swimming pool on roof garden.Sometimes life band playing in summer time. And in evening all area around pool decorated with big candles.Piano that looks as made from glass in bar on first floor. Very romantic!
Free sauna and turkish bath! Small but very equipped gym. Best massage table of my life(and i take massage twice a week everywhere i go!)
All in all hotel made with a lot of soul and brain work!!! Bravo!
You feel more that only at home! You feel that your home is palace! :))

Room Tip: any room is excellent and has own spirit
