“Real small but a great feel of the Greek Isles”
Reviewed 19 December 2011

At the very top of the Plaka is an area called Anafiotika. This area, as I understand it, was settled by people from the island of Anafi. This area has some really narrow winding 'streets'. They are really walkways and stairways in and amongst the small houses that are there. This has a completely different feel than the rest of the Plaka and, I think, gives you a small taste of the Greek Isles.

“Forgotten Athens”
Reviewed 23 November 2011

This area around the Acropolis of Athens comes really from the past. It has very poorly-made, old houses from the 19th century. They belonged to immigrants from small aegean islands, who came to Athens to help it become this ugly city it is today. These houses are completely abandoned by their owners and thus they don't have something nice to see. The strong contrast between the new city around they old houses is the only reason someone would visit this area on purpose.

“Take a trip”
Reviewed 17 November 2011

This village was built by the workers from the island of Anafi who were brought in to build the big pink palace (now the Vouli) of Silly King Otto. They nicked most of the building materials from the palace meaning some houses have the same floor as the ballroom where Otto waltzed. It's a lovely part of Athens.
