As in any hotel, the staff is the first impression of the accommodations. We travel internationally and domestically a lot and we both agree the staff at the AVA is probably the best we have encountered. We arrived early on a nonstop flight from JFK very tired. We were greeted immediately by a lovely young woman at the door who offered us something to drink. Our room wasn't ready since it was early, we were made comfortable and before we knew it we were taken to our suite. Several minutes later there was a knock at the door and a chilled bottle of champagne and chocolates. What more could we ask for! The location of the hotel is perfect, a short walk to the Acropolis and other sites, lots of outside restaurants and cafes nearby. The AVA was clean, spotless and very relaxing. We had a wonderful veranda where we enjoyed our champagne, drinks, wine and cheeses at sunset the 2 nights we were there. We highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there on a return visit. Thanks again to the outstanding staff who couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. They even found a way to fix my cane before we went walking; without it I couldn't have made it up to the Parthenon.

What a friendly reception we received! On arrival we were taken to our room personally and shown all the important features and facilities. Our ground floor unit opened onto a very pleasant terrace where we sat and enjoyed a glass of bubbly before heading out for the evening. The hotel is an easy walk away from the major attractions and also within walking distance of some great restaurants. The kitchenette would be perfect for a longer stay and has all the facilities needed to prepare breakfast or a little snack.

My wife and I stayed here for the first 4 nights of our Europe vacation and couldn't have asked for anything better. This is the prefect hotel, at the perfect price in the perfect location.

First, the rooms were spacious and clean with a separate bedroom and living space. We had a very small balcony that was still an asset because you could view the Acropolis on the right and Zues' temple on the left. Both these attractions and many more were within easy walking distance, as well as the Plaka shopping area (which basically starts right outside the door). It's also very convenient to local transit, which is only a couple blocks away. We were actually pleasantly surprised at how quiet this hotel and area was at night with a major road only a few steps away and the Plaka shopping district so close.

The staff were incredibly helpful, polite and spoke fluent english. They even helped book an airport pick-up for us prior to arrival and gave us lots of useful information, including helping us to locate an area of the city where my wife spent a few years of her childhood and worked out transit to get us there. This was far beyond our expectations

I would suggest this hotel to anyone. It's in a safe clean area and perfect for any tourist... or local alike.

This is a truly excellent hotel. Great facilities. Great location. Great staff.
I stayed for two nights and was upgraded to a superb suite. The people here really know how to run a hotel. 5 star yet friendly and intimate.
Do yourself a favour if you are visiting Athens and stay here ... you will not find better.

I stayed here on the front end of a cruise of the islands and found the room large and well appointed, even including a small kitchenette. The bathroom was smallish, but modern. My room on the third floor was on the back with views of a courtyard and other buildings and was very quiet. The staff was extraordinarily helpful in directing me to nearby restaurants. The breakfast was nice and the access to a computer and printer was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this to those wanting a small hotel with personalized service.

We stayed at the Ava for 3 nights in May, our first trip to Athens. Ava is a peaceful retreat from the busy city of Athens. We arrived around noon, but experienced only a short wait until a room was ready for us. The front desk staff upon our arrival and throughout our stay were exceptionally nice people, very warm and helpful.

Our room was a suite and we were delighted with the size, furnishings and layout. The bedroom had a king size bed with high quality linens. The double doors enabled one of us to nap or sleep-in, even if the other one was up and around. The living area was comfortable and included a flat screen TV and blue ray disc player (movies can be borrowed from the front desk). Surprisingly, we used the blue ray a few times at night while winding down from the hectic daytime pace. The kitchen was nicely appointed - we used it only for coffee - however it would be very liveable for long terms stay if needed. The bath was large and modern, and included comfy robes. The room was very well maintained and EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN upon arrival and throughout our stay. There is no view, despite the hotel's website claims. Our room had a small balcony to the relatively quiet street, not large enough to sit but still a nice feature.

While the hotel itself is excellent, the real star of the show is Ava's location in the Plaka. This is exactly where you want to be for a first visit to Athens, walkable to all of the historic sites and a very close walk to the Acropolis and the fantastic New Acropolis museum. Not to mention an abundance of nearby cafes and restaurants for every preference and budget, and plenty of touristy shopping and snacking. Ava is so well located that it was easy to come back for a midday rest if needed, without the feeling of "losing" too much precious sightseeing time.

Breakfast at Ava was good, not as great as some other EU hotels we've experienced, but certainly provided plenty of selection and the quality of everything was excellent. The attendant cheerfully provides custom espresso and capuccino upon request, and I believe custom eggs were also available although we did not partake in the latter.

We would be very keen to stay at Ava again if ever in Athens.

Room Tip: Suites are exceptionally spacious and comfortable

The absolute best thing about this hotel is the location. The hotel is located 5-10 minutes walk from the Plaka area, which has tons of restaurants, bars, and cute alleys to lose yourself through. Must go to a roof-top restaurant for dinner in the Plaka area! We had an amazing time watching the sun set while having dinner. You can also walk to all the major ruins including the Acropolis, Parthenon from the Ava Hotel.

The hotel rooms are HUGE (for European standards). Our modern room had a small kitchenette, large bed, massive amounts of storage, cute little balcony, and large bathroom. The hotel provided us with a complimentary bottle of champagne, which was a nice touch. Trust me, you will not regret booking at this hotel!
