“Extraordinary Athens Hotel”
Reviewed 31 May 2012

The AVA is a "must stay" boutique hotel in the delightfully charming Plaka area of Athens. It's luxerious, beautifully designed and extremely comfortable. It's worth spending a bit more for Suite 301 if you really want the best. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the new Acropolis Museum and if you're a bit lazy after a day in the museums we recommend risotto with mushrooms up the street at the Daphne cafe.

Room Tip: Suite 301 is well worth the up charge.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Santorini. We arrived in the early evening and the desk clerk was very welcoming and helpful. He pointed out which tourist locations would still be open and offered to book a restaurant for us for dinner (we chose to go to Strofi which has a view of the Acropolis and it was well worth it!). The room we stayed in was large and quiet. The rooms aren't quiet as good as the photos but still very nice. The only thing that let the room down was the size of the shower. I'm 5'7" and 130 pounds and I barely fit in the shower.
The location was perfect for restaurants and the tourist sites.
On our way back from Santorini we stayed at the New Hotel in Athens and if I had to choose again I would choose the AVA hotel, it feels more like a home than a hotel

Stayed for a day before a sailing trip and three days afterwards. Wonderful location in interesting neighborhood at the foot of the Acropolis. Walking distance to almost everything you'll want to see. Good, well designed and equipped room ( unusually, good lighting) comfortable and clean. Staff are exceptional in their helpfulness and cheerfulness. Recommended unreservedly.

We stayed at the AVA hotel in May this year. We had a suite with a bedroom and large living room with kitchen area and facilities.

The hotel is very close to the Acopolis and Museum, the National Gardens and tons of eating and shopping choices. The room comes with a great breakfast.

The staff was very helpful.

We highly recommend AVA and will stay there again if we come to Athens.

A beautiful boutique hotel in an excellent location. Quiet, surrounded by good bars and restaurants, and short walk to major sites. Recommend staying in a larger appartment; well-equipped and spacious.
Lovely staff; friendly and helpful.

Super hotel, great location, lovely suite with terrace and views of the Acropolis, Adrian's Arch, and Temple Of Zeus. All the staff were excellent and really tried to make you welcome.

Room Tip: The suite's with a terrace are worth the extra cost

I selected this hotel based on the Trip advisor reviews

Upon entering the hotel, I was very disappointed by the lobby which is done in a homely style, a cheap panelling of wood on the wall with a glittering floor. The adjacent breakfast room is furnished with outdated furniture and the lounge area is not inviting at all. The elevator looks like a vault and the stairs is in faux marble in a city where marble paves the streets. The corridor leading to the rooms is lined with wall to wall carpet which is in need of replacement . The overall impression was of a 3 stars provincial hotel.

Also there is no spa, no gym, no restaurant, no rooftop terrace with acropolis view to enjoy cocktail before diner (although I am told this is an ongoing project)

This is where the negative ends.

The room was adequate and the staff is really the asset in this hotel. Also this is the best location, almost everything can be reached by foot.

Everything else that was said in the previous reviews is true.

Because this hotel is quite expensive, this was not good value for money

First of all we would like to thank our guest for all positive comments regarding
our staff and location and we are happy to hear that he concur with most of
the positive points expressed in the previous reviews. We fully respect every
personal view vis-à-vis our lobby and associated areas. One cannot argue
about impressions or tastes in decoration. Nevertheless we have noted all decoration comments and respect our guests' different taste.
