I was born in Athens and i have lived there for more than 9 years,so i believe that anyone comes in Greece has to visit Athens and find the hidden beauty behind the traffic and noise. One great sample of architecture is the building of the National library and the university of Athens. They give adifferent note from the past of this country.JUST GO!

Any visit to Athens is worth a stroll between Syntagma (Constitution) Sq. and Omonia (Concord) Sq. After leaving Syntagma note on the right the Numismatic Museum, once home of Heinrich Schliemann, excavator of ancient Mycenae and Troy, and on the left, Zonar's, Athens most famous sweet shop. After that on the right, the main university buildings designed by the German architect Schiller in the 19th c. They have been lovingly restored.

We walked on the most beautiful Panepistimiou Avenue, from Syntagma Square to Omonia Square, and we were very impressed by three beautiful buildings: University of Athens (The administration only and it is closed to visitors. the university moved to another place), The Academy and The National Library (nice reading room) . Neo Classic Style from 19 century. Marble, beautiful prescoes and statues of Apolo and Athena. (Our visit to Athens July 2011).
