“OK for one night”
Reviewed 25 July 2011

We stayed at Hotel Diethnes for one night primarily because of its close proximity to Larissa train station.
The hotel is pretty average - OK for one night, but not somewhere you would want to stay for a lengthy duration. The beds in the rooms are huge, and the breakfast has plenty of choice, but other than that it's nothing special, and there's a tinge of cigarette smoke throughout.
I'd recommend the hotel for a short stay of a purely functional/practical nature, but nothing more.

The building itself is quite nice. The rooms have new windows that work well to block out street noise. Breakfast was simple but good.

The area itself is not great for travellers. There are not any restaurants nearby and it does feel a bit unsafe at night. We never had any problems but it did seem a bit scuzzy. However, it was easy to get into the main tourist areas on the metro.

Our room did not get cleaned but in their defense we hadn't paid for the 2nd night yet.

The front desk people were friendly but not that helpful. Their english seemed to be limited and they didn't have a lot of information about the area (dining, transportation etc.)

I don't understand the slaggings this hotel is getting. You get what you pay for....I wanted a cheap hotel near the station and it was exactly that. Only complaints was there wasn't much choice at breakfast and I wouldn't have minded a kettle and a plug in the sink. Not luxorious but definitely good value.

It's not a hotel at all but a hostel. The pictures are not current and all the flags are threadbare. We were told this would be a good hotel for a honeymoon. The streets surrounding it aren't the highest class, the area is known to be disreputable and there was no help at the front desk. We asked for a refund seeing as we'd paid for a week and stayed for about 20 mins but we were ignored. The manager is apparently never there. The room was filthy, cigarette butts on the floor, wet towels, broken balcony door. It was a thoroughly miserable experience. Save your money and head to Glyfada. 89 euro's a night right by the beach.

we chose this hotel because is was the cheapest alternative centrally located that we found on the hotel booking sites. because of the price i wasn't expcting much, and was pleasantly surprised. note: i'm not picky! there were no cockroaches or bugs in the room, the bed linen and towels were clean, the shower had hot water - works for me! of course there were negative sides, but nothing that matters much to me: we had to be a bit creative to flush the toilet, the room/furniture was a bit dusty, and the receptionist (who seemed to be there 24-7), smoked in the reception round the clock. so if you're picky, maybe it's not the place for you.

The location was great, a peaceful place, though it was very untidy outside, but the Larissa metro station was a 5 min walk away, so it means very close!

The breakfast was also good and the price was brilliant.

Our room was tiny but the bathroom was huge! Our room was located on the cellar! We didn't have a window! But anyway we had a good night sleep because the sun didn't shine.

What you pay is what you get...

Reception guy was different every time, but very helping, though not so happy to help us (we had to interrupt his chat sessions online...)

Very clean budget hotel.

  • Liked — Soft beds, big pillows
  • Disliked — our room was so small
  • Tips/Secrets — metros don't run after 12 pm!!!

We stayed in this hotel with a group on our way to the islands. It was small, cramped, in need of repairs and one of our group had cockroaches. The price may be low, but the standards are lower. Not recommended at all.
