Stayed here for 5 nights in early April. The location is ideal. While it is fair to say that the hotel itself is not situated in the most salubrious of areas, it is pefectly safe and you are within easy walking distance of all the important sights. We got a deal where the hotel deducted the cost of visiting the Accropolis and other sites from our final bill. The breakfast was delicious and there was lots of choice, including homemade breads and greek classics (cheese and spinach pies) and the option of a cooked breakfast. The ladies that served breakfast were also excellent. My only issue with this hotel was the AC situation. We complained that the room was too warm and that we couldn't make it cooler (it was 21 degrees). We also noticed that the AC screen had a flashing lantern, which according to the instructions indicated that it needed servicing. We were told that it was fine but that we could only make the room cooler by switiching off the AC (irritatingly, it kept switching itself back on) and opening the window. We had a front-facing room and it was directly opposite a bar, which played loud music until the early hours and there is alot of street noise in Athens, with very noisy motorcycles - the hotel itself is situated just off a main road. Needless to say the quality of our sleep wasn't the best. Although this didn't impact greatly on our trip, it might cause greater problems for others. Finally, all the guidebooks tell you to keep away from "touristy" Plaka, but in early April it was actually very nice, not overrun with tourists and I would happily based myself there, next time I visit Athens, if I do not return to the O&B, which I would do, provided that the AC issues are resolved.

Room Tip: Raise AC issues with the hotel before you book/arrive.

My wife and had two nights here as part of a wider trip in Greece and the islands. Your first impression of the hotel when you arrive is that it is in an interesting area - but having now walked around Athens a lot I understand this impression is commmon (run down 'dodgy' building next to swanky new looking ones...) Room was excellent size, particularly the bathroom, and was very comfortable. Location with regards walking distance of all main central sites is excellent. Service was great - very friedly and helpful. We had an issue with our Air con unit on our second night (kept switching off, most people would have found the temperature fine but I like it COLD) - after promptly trying to resolve this with no luck we were offered the choice to move to a different room, and we were upgraded to an Acroplis view suite for the trouble of doing this!

Absolutely a fabulous hotel. Clean, friendly, helpful, comfortable. I can't recommend this highly enough. It's a bit tricky to find on your own so if you don't mind spending the 45 euros (plus tip, probably another 5 euros) for the hotel to arrange for a taxi transfer from the airport, it does remove stress. Taking the metro back to the airport if it's a safe time of day, is feasible as by then you'll know where the metro stations are and have figured out the winding streets.

Tip: if you come in the spring, remember Greece is cool, windy and rainy! I should have packed warmer clothes and left the sandals and shorts behind.

Just coming to Athens from Istanbul to finish our 2 week trip, I thought there would be no out-shining the wonderful time we had in Turkey. But, I was wrong. Staying at O&B was just the right end to our vacation. The Greek sites were what we had imagined, but it was the people who showed us the real Greece. They were warm, funny and always eager to chat. The O&B hotel reception was friendly and attentive. The restaurant staff was very accommodating...think custom-made American scrambled eggs. Most of all we enjoyed the company of the bartender, Victoria, really she was more than that working what seemed like every job at O&B. Before heading out to dinner each night and we'd stop by for a quick glass of wine and end up talking with her for an hour. Our best souvenir from Athens was the friendship we took home.

We stayed at the O&B for 3 nights just before the Greek Easter holiday and were impressed with the service and staff friendliness and efficiency.
On arrival we received welcome drinks and Greek snacks (olives, feta, sundried tomatoes and traditional greek bread), later the evening we received a tray with traditional Greek Easter snacks. Very nice indeed.
Regarding the room: firm bed which I like, pillows weren't very comfortable for sleeping (too big or firm somehow but that's just my preference) but at least you have a choice between a few. It's the first time I stayed in a hotel where the throw on the bed was definitely clean and looked freshly washed. Usually I can't wait to take it off the bed, but not this time. The bedside lamps can be dimmed which is absolutely great - I hate it when it's so bright that you'd rather sit in the dark. Bedding was crisp and clean. There's a minibar fridge hidden behind the cupboard, a CD player, DVD player and a TV. DVD's can be borrowed from reception if you're feeling tired after a long day walking around the beautiful Athens. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided. There's no proper wardrobe but there is a place to hang you clothes (including hangers) behind a curtain. You don't need more than that in my opinion. Our room (number 2) on the first floor - was quiet and faced some buildings with their own charm.
Bathroom: good size with a very nice shower. Water was warm with good pressure. (The showerhead is huge - which I loved). They provide the normal showergels and shampoo and also some complementary toiletries.
Breakfast: Good selection in my opinion. Can really recommend the Greek yogurts and the fresh fruit. One morning I had a very nice omelet with bacon and cheese, their poached eggs on toast is also very nice. The orange juice are freshly squeezed.
ALL Staff: staff are very helpful and friendly and speak good English. They printed out our boarding passes and prepared a packed breakfast for our last morning as we had to leave very early. We experienced them to be proactive.
Area: the area is actually interesting and very safe, close to absolutely everything. Nothing like Omonia, don't be put off by what can be perceived as a dodgy road (Leokoriou Street) - it's not. Spend some time watching the people opening their little shops in the morning, bartering with other shop owners etc when you have breakfast - it's an eye opener.
Getting there: take the blue line from the Airport and get off at Monastiraki and walk to the hotel. It's only a few minutes and it's an interesting walk. We took a taxi (booked through the hotel) on our last day as we had to be at the airport very early and that cost in the region of €42-€45 on Easter Friday.
Negatives: the bathroom could have been cleaner on arrival (watermarks/splatter below the basin, I wondered whether it was dirty or permanent markings, it was dirty), this was rectified the following morning without me mentioning anything. Please note the toilet, shower and basin was very clean.
Overall: we had a great stay and even the bathroom watermarks/splatters can not prevent me from giving them an overall Excellent rating. We'll definitely stay here again.

The O&B hotel is the perfect place to stay for a short trip to Athens. We only had one full day in Athens (and two nights in the hotel) and could not have been happier. The location of the hotel is practically perfect – after a full cooked breakfast with many side choices (including a selection of fresh fruit, cereals and cakes) we walked to the parliament building in less than 15 minutes to watch the changing of the guard (happens on the hour, every hour). From there we walked south through the adjacent National Garden which included some fascinating ancient sites such as Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Zeus. From there, it was about a 5 minute walk to the Acropolis museum, and then a short walk up the Acropolis to the Parthenon. A great way to spend the afternoon, and then we were just minutes away from the hotel again on foot. If you are staying for longer, the metro station is very near by (although we did not use it).

Not only was the location excellent, but the staff were absolutely fantastic. They were attentive and helpful, and extremely friendly. As soon as we had checked into our room there was a knock at the door and a small tray containing olives, feta cheese and dried tomatoes was delivered along with two small welcome drinks. It was unexpected, and a very nice touch. When we experienced a minor problem with the air conditioner in our room, the staffs were just great – immediately offering us a new room or a complimentary meal (either in the hotel restaurant or as room service). Although this was just one example, throughout our stay their customer service was superb.

Finally, the room was excellent. Small, but with a very stylish bathroom (robes and slippers) and a good queen sized bed (which was actually one mattress rather than two single beds pushed together, which is common in Europe).

In summary, we could not give the O&B hotel a stronger recommendation – it clearly deserves its current high rating on TripAdvisor. If you stay here, I am sure you will be as delighted as we were!
