The apartment we were given at the Delice (No 14,on the Mezzanine level) was a wonderful surprise - just what the doctor ordered - after long trip from Sydney. A large double bedroom with balcony, a roomy lounge/tv room, a separate dining area, a kitchen and a well appointed bathroom. You would pay a great deal more than the 75 Euros per night we were charged for this much space and comfort at the marble-and-glass hotels, like the one around the corner.

The Delice has a smart entrance in a street where some of the surrounding buildings are in need of tender loving care, but do not let this put you off. The place is spic, sparkling, comfortable and friendly. The breakfasts are as generous in that charming Greek way as the staff. The location is another bonus: a few hundred metres from Evangelissimos Metro Station, or the 14th stop on the Blue Line from the Airport. Just buy your tickets at the Aiport Station. In our case, as senior travellers, we paid half price, or a mere four (4) Euros each for the 3ery0 kilometres or roughly 40 minutes ride to the city in a delightfully modern, super clean, train (a bargain compared to Sydney, where you would pay around $16 for the much shorter journey).

The Metro is a great way of getting around the city, too.For example, Syntagma Square is one stop away (cost 70 Euro cents return, for seniors). The Delice's location makes it a very convenient base too for walking (if you are not afraid of a decent leg stretching stroll) to the original Olympic Stadium, the Plaka, and the Acropolis.

There are also some excellent restaurants and mini markets in the area, together with the ubiquitous Greek cafes for coffee, sweet things and just chillling. Buy yourself some Komboloi (we call them "worry beads") and relax.

One nearby eatery we can recommend is the Alatsi, distinguished for its Cretan cuisine and produce. The tomatoes taste like they used to in the days before they were sucked dry by supermarkets. Try the Stamnagathi (boiled wild greens), perhaps with a fresh fillet of fish. This place plays great old style jazz, has wonderfully friendly staff who are very proud of its Cretan food and tradition, and lovely cold beer on tap.

I should also mention that the breakfasts at the Delice are enough to set you up for the day, beginning with freshly squeezed juice, which you prepare yourself by feeding real oranges into the ingenious little machine at the breakfast bar. You can also make yourself a tasted cheese and ham sandwich.

Room Tip: Apartment 14 met all of our needs.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. Hotel is very centrally located with a very nice park view, easy to go everywhere by walking and metro. Hotel was very clean, breakfast was nice even with free of charged fresh orange juice. There was a nice balcony. The price of the hotel was extremely reasonable. We recommend this hotel for families.

Room - rooms here are really large!!!! And very adequately stocked. There is also a lovely little balcony

Location - perfect. Just a 5 min walk to the metro station (Evangelissmos) and also to Kolonaki area. For those who love walking, you can take a slow stroll to Syntagma which will probably take around 20 mins, but you pass by some lovely lovely buildings. Several fantastic restaurants nearby (Oroscope beside Divani Caravel is highly recommended!) which are open until 1am. And just overall a very very safe area to walk in even late at night alone.

Breakfast - my one and only gripe. Sucked BIG TIME!!!!! Very limited and quite unbearable.

Staff - lovely!!! Everyone was soo soo friendly and helpful!!! Noted mentions are Costas and Theo.

We were disappointed with our stay at Delice.Positives were that it was in a good location with plenty of restaurants and a metro station nearby.2of the reception staff members were extremely nice and helpful but the other 2 receptionists we had to deal were abrupt and far from helpful. The apartment was v old and gloomy with poor lighting. The flushing mechanism in the toilet was suboptimal.
I felt that our bed sheets were not clean, there were stains on them.
we will not be staying here on our next visit to Athens.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road as it can be noisy
