This service is excellent, and to say that it is free and staffed by volunteers shows just how passionate they are about their city.
We met our guide Gianni at Syntagma, walked through the gardens towards the stadium, but he showed us a way to see the stadium from the back, the views were amazing. We then carried on walking through areas like Kolonaki, Lycabettus, University, Omonia, Anafiotika, amongst others, and ended up finishing in Makrigianni. 11 Kms in total!! He showed us archaeological finds not in the guide books, such as the new building of the National Bank straddling parts of the old wall of the city. He also very kindly emailed a map of our walk for future reference.
When you complete the form on the website you state your interests, ages etc so they match a guide and a route specifically for you.
The website states that no monies or tips are allowed to change hands so we took out English tea and biscuits, as we didn't know if offering money would be frowned upon, and what amount to give....do you insult with too much or too little?!!
A great service and one of the best ways to see this amazing city!!
