Stayed here for three nights as a lone traveller in May 2013 and was very pleased. The hotel was very clean and the shower, bed etc. were all good. It is a simple hotel, but well kept and with friendly staff. I will certainly stay there again next time I'm in Athens. Great value.

Some people have commented on the area the hotel is in. Now, I used to live in Athens and am familiar with the city. The hotel is located in the centre of town and yes, there can be some strange people about, especially at night. Walk 50 metres and you are right in the centre of the vibrant quite touristy area of Psirri with lots of bars, tavernas, clubs and other fun stuff; walk 100 metres in the other direction and you end up in some "bad" areas where I wouldn't recommend walking alone at night. The street the hotel itself is on has lots of shops (flowers and such) and is in no way a "bad" place. The thing is it is like this in almost any large city centre in the world. Just use common sense, walk to the hotel from the metro station along Athinas street and you will be fine - remember, Athens is generally a VERY safe city. It might be a bit "loud" and people tend to shout more, but that is Greece!

When you stay here make sure you that when you get up one morning you walk through the meat/butcher's market just round the corner - it's an experience! and will teach you alot about Greece.

We had a wonderful stay here for two nights in early May of 2013. The staff was kind and welcoming. The hotel is well situated, in fairly close walking distance to all of the sites and fun neighborhoods of Athens. We felt safe walking in the area even at night. The rooms are small and very simple, but they are clean and perfectly adequate for the budget traveler.

The Athinaikon Hotel is a great place to stay. It is clean and comfortable. The family and staff who run it are very nice people. It was always a pleasure to see them, when going out each morning to explore Athens, and returning each afternoon. The hotel is located in the market area, which is full of life in the day, and quiet at night. The hotel probably has the best location of any hotels in Athens - it is halfway between the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis/Acropolis Museum, making it easy to walk to the major sites. I have stayed at the Athinaikon a few times and look forward to staying again. I recommend the Athinaikon Hotel.

We were very happy with this hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful. Great location for wandering athens by foot, also very close to the metro if you prefer. They offered a laundry service too which was great as we were backpacking. Rooms were airconditioned and clean.
Will stay again.

Stayed for one night, arrived about nine from a week's island hopping without a booking and delighted a room was available at a good price. Plenty of hot water, quiet air conditioning and comfy clean bed. No view but very quiet. Street not much going on at night but near Monistaraki etc for food and drink and Athens buzz. Full of life in morning with flowers for sale outside, lots of small shops and local colour. 24 hour reception and free luggage deposit which was very useful as our flight back was in the evening. Would recommend for those who want a good price for clean sheets and room/good location/welcome from hotel/good shower/peaceful night's sleep. Ticked all the boxes for us.

Absolutely perfect! We had a very good time there. Perfect position, close to the Monastiraki metro station and the Plaka. The hotel staff were amazing, incredibly friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Have stayed there on previous occasions and would highly recommend the hotel as excellent value for money.
