My girlfriend and I recently spent two nights at Hotel Dryades and really enjoyed our time there. The hotel is clean, has well-equipped rooms and is in a neighbourhood full of bars and restaurants. The staff were incredibly helpful; on our last day (having checked out) we came to collect our suitcase from reception, whereupon the owner offered us an empty room to shower and change in before heading to the airport. Touches like this are really appreciated, and well beyond what you expect from somewhere so cheap. Highly recommended.

The Hotel Dryades (& it's sister hotel The Orion ) are two wonderful little boutique hotels in the heart of Athens' creative and alternative area, Exarchion. The nearest metro is Omonia (10 minute walk) but a short cab ride will get you to the hotel very quickly. The hotel staff were very helpful. The receptionist made me a Greek coffee as I waited for my room to become available. The staff were extremely helpful regarding directions and for suggestions about things to do in the local area. The rooms are really pleasant - clean well decorated with good showers & some views of the city. The breakfast is good value and the hotel has a fantastic rooftop garden where you can eat your own takeaway food. Highly recommended in terms of being a small hotel in a fascinating area and close enough to public transport (trams & buses) to reach the main sights of Athens.

Room Tip: Just ask staff about rooms when you book as basic & superior rooms are available as well as room...

We stayed at Hotel Dryades for three nights and were warmly welcomed by the gentleman on reception and shown to our room. We stayed in a basic room however we found it clean and comfortable; our room faced onto a small court yard, were we could sit outside. There was a kettle and a fridge which were useful, the bathroom was modern in design and appeared that it had only recently being fitted. There was free wi-fi at the hotel too, we were given a password to use this. It was explained that there was a communal kitchen that we could utilise, which may be useful for those a budget.

We paid extra to have the hotel breakfast which was taken on the roof terrace in the hotel next door; the terrace had breath taking views across Athens and a good view of the Acropolis. We found the breakfast plentiful & tasty, tea or coffee, orange juice, a basket of bread, jam, honey etc, meats, cheese, olives and fresh fruits.

The hotel is tucked away up a steep hill, we found the hotel quiet and peaceful in spite of the bustling city. On first appearances the neighbourhood appeared shabby, covered in graffiti however when you looked beyond this is was evident that it was an authentic Athens and the graffiti often portraying political and ethical issues, the neighbourhood felt safe even when walking around in on an evening. There isn't a metro station in the immediate vicinity of the hotel so we ended up walking most places, taking about 30 minutes to walk to the main tourist attractions. There were plenty of quality bars and restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel, and a kiosk and bakery at the bottom of the street.

The hotel staff were helpful when we were trying to find an alternative route to the airport due to the local metro station being closed due to strikes and demonstrations. It felt that they could not do enough for you.

I would definitely recommend this to others who want to stay somewhere quiet in Athens on a budget.

I came to Athens to write [work] and travel. I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. I arrived before ten o'clock and was received by a very nice man. I got a spacious and comfortable room with a balcony including a table and chairs and a lovely view [especially at night] to the Acropolis. The room [and the bathroom] were heated, and included coffee maker, refrigerator and free Wi-Fi [and of course my TV was not used] . Equipped communal kitchen, with free mineral water, and supermarkets and a bakery within 2-3 minutes walking. The wonderful attitude of the staff and clean rooms made the stay very pleasant.
Excellent location: The hotel is located on a hill overlooking the city and linked to a grove. A distance of about 20 minutes from the old town and 40 minutes from the Acropolis. All six days of my stay in Athens I did not need public transportation.
Charming and quiet neighborhood: Located in the neighborhood of Athens University and the Museum of Archaeology. Full of nice cafes and music, and Open until the wee hours. Quiet population, mostly students and intellectuals. It is very common to work in cafes, and I enjoyed a wonderful atmosphere. The most noticeable thing is a lot of graffiti. I found it really art paints the neighborhood and took many pictures.
I recommended the hotel to all my friends and acquaintances.
A, from Israel.

I've just returned after spending 3 nights on a room only basis with my daughter at Dyades. I booked online. We arrived around 10pm. The man at reception was very kind and helpful and made an effort to speak English to us, he must have noticed how bad my Greek was! He didn't have our booking but dealt with the situation in an impressively calm and professional way. We had booked the budget room with no balcony. We were given a delightful room with 2 balconies and a wonderful view of the Acropolis at no extra cost. He also called the room to check that our heating was working, not that we needed it, but nice to know that it is of concern.I'd read that there was a communal kitchen so wasn't expecting much in the way of facilities in the room, so again was happy to find a fridge and kettle and all the necessities for making a hot drink. Small things make a difference like the cups and saucers were very pretty and slightly unusual. The general decor was quaint and attractive and the plasma TV was great too! We couldn't have been more comfortable. For a 2 star hotel and at such a reasonable rate I would thoroughly recommend it. Policy must have changed since the previous reviews because we were given a password for free wifi.
All the staff we had contact with were charming and helpful. When we asked for taxis to be ordered they also informed us that there were buses we could take. We felt very well looked after and secure which is important for us as we are not familiar with Athens.
The day we left we were able to store our cases after checking out and we were given a courtesy room to change in before finally setting off...another unexpected touch. I felt the hoteliers could not have been more helpful.
The area is amazing! Saturday morning there was a colourful lively fresh produce market on the street below the hotel. We easily found good places to eat within walking distance. It's a great base for exploring the city.

We spent 2 nights in September 2012 in Hotel Dryades. We've booked the cheapest double-room, without view, we did not expect much. To our surprise, it was very good. The hotel is on a dead-end street, so there is no traffic, it is very quiet. The room is clean, spatious, we had a fridge, a water cooker, a third bed. The furniture is good, the ceiling is wooden, it makes a very good impression. The manager is solicitous and service-oriented.

Omonia metro station is at ~10 minutes on foot and the Archeological Museum even closer.

We were a group of 20 people and had booked the hotel with the help of some Greek friends, who also discussed a special discount price. The place is clean and located close to a University campus. The park next to it, is used by Greeks as a place to party at the weekend. So this is not a place if you want to have a quiet stay in Athens, though it was still possible to sleep. If you are the walking kind of tourist, it is possible to explore the city from the spot. We walked to and from the Akropolis. There are also nice restaurants and bars here. The roof top gives an amazing view, but unfortunately closes already around 11.30 pm. Internet is not free in this place, this was a downturn for us.
