“Hard to find pizza in Athens!”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We were surprised how hard it was to find pizza in Athens, when it has become such a staple all over the world. A bit refreshing, I guess. We had given up on pizza for dinner when we stumbled by this place on the way to have a pre-dinner drink. All the action was at the outside tables on a busy Saturday night. The pizza selections were more limited than you are likely used too, but the one we ordered was nicely done. Thin crust, lots of the main topping, and served in a bustling setting. While the outside seating was packed, there was plenty of available inside seating if you are not a crowd type. Lots of other interesting sounding and looking food on the menu too, so not just a pizza joint. Consider this if you find yourself needing a pizza fix after a few days of admittedly delicious traditional Greek food, as we did. Like most places in Athens, they serve very late on weekends. We left after midnight, and the place was still packed!

We were eight people travelling around Greece in two cars and did about 1,800 km. The last night maybe because I am a vegetarian and they were weary of eating so much meat we decided to look for a Pizza place in the middle of Athens. Most Athenians have no idea what Pizza tastes like - they think it is disloyal to eat Italian food. Anyway after much walking and countless negative replies one young woman's eyes lit up and told us to go to SCHOOL PIZZA and we got a rough direction. Fifty meters away no-body had heard of the place. We eventually found it and it was packed with young people, all of them outside in a street brimming with atmosphere. Being eight of us we ate inside. We all ordered Pizza and even those amongst us that didn't normally like pizza were amazed. It was amazing. I found the kitchen and hugged the chef out of pure relief and in 10 minutes he came upstairs with a chocolate pizza that brought us to tears. I don't know where he got that chocolate from but it tasted like amazing things are supposed to taste. The decor is very original and the crazy rope lighting came from the light shop around the corner from the Cecil hotel. Please if you are in Athens you have to have a meal there.
