I went to this restaurant in the past and decide to try it again ; luckliy for us nothing has cahnged the quality, presentataion and taste of the food was excellent. Prepared as iltaian food should be prepared, and the wine list one of the best in Athens. Prices are a bit steep but at this particular time you can find some discounts for thsi restaurant.

High up the hill at the end of Kolonaki area (on the way to Lycabettus) doesn't provide an easy access and parking is even more difficult... Go by taxi or ...by motorcycle (as we did).
The inside of the restaurant reminded me of an old French style bistro, dusty, small but very cosy. I liked the wooden library and the special wine refrigerators...
The owner knows about wine and the food is real and authentic Italian. The prices are extremely high for the times (and the country)... Fortunately there are special menus on offer (weekdays) including wine!
We went on a special Friday menu 35 euros pp with 1 bottle of prosecco for 2 and the food was really tasty, plenty and of a good quality. The owner (who also serves) is very polite and helpful. He asked us if we wanted water (bottled), which means it was chargeable, we said "yes", but we didn't know it was 6 euros for 1 bottle (plain local). This was a foul!
Other than that everything was fine! Nice breads and home-made foccacia, also homemade pumpkin gnocci (a treat), prawns in spicy tomato sauce, black squid risotto, sole on a beans' puree (with sweet garlic and mushrooms) and little rooster stuffed with cabbage and Tuscan sausage served with polenta and spinach... Lemon semifreddo and strawberry sorbet with fresh strawberries for dessert!
We paid exactly 76 euros for a romantic (and complete) dinner for two.

OK, I know what you're thinking: why eat Italian in Athens? After all, you probably wouldn't be eating greek in Italy neither. And yet. We stumbled into this restaurant when we were looking for a place for dinner on a New Year's day (everything else was closed). We're very happy with our discovery. The food is consistently excellent (and fairly priced) with a northern Italian slant, the service warm and friendly, and the wine list spectacular (my husband, who is a real wine geek, says that not only do they have an impressive library of back vintages of greek wines, but they are very very good on all international classics and particularly strong, of course, on Italy - all very keenly priced!). This was our third time at Sale e Pepe and we always leave very satisfied. So yes, if there was Greek food this good in Florence, we'd go for that, too!

I cant help coming back! Last visit, pricing as always (meaning ,steep) but various discounts are on offer currently which makes the wine list (think winopedia) more accessible, which is all that should matter to the dedicated wine lover. So many offerings on old vintages of both mainstream & obscure wines, it really feels like a wine party. The friendly service only adds to the feeling. And, yes, the food is up to the challenge, albeit in a north Italy hearty way , rather than a michelin haute cuisine one (and all the better for it to match the characterfull wines). A (costly) addiction for those who use both soul & brains to enjoy fine wine & dine.

The interior has cozy and warm decoration. Unique dishes like fasianos, pasta with lobster, bisteca Florentina(steak). The owner was very friendly, discreet and helpful. For 2 persons we paid 147 euro (with 2 glasses of wine). Overall, although it is expensive restaurant, it is worth the money you pay.
