“Poor beach, area/location, no entertainment”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Booked a family room for 2 adult+2 teenagers. Room very good (except no blackout blinds) ,food quite good(could be hotter but overall ok). Was surprised and disappointed that no wine list available, only local house wine red/rose/white and not very good- would have been happy to pay extra for a decent bottle of wine but none available and that doesn't seem right for a supposed 5* hotel. Entertainment RUBBISH !! Occasional entertainment in bar area but not advertised or frequent. Beach very poor, coarse gravelly sand and rocks - for miles either side. Nowhere near enough sunbeds available and many people getting up at silly times to bag sunbeds. Hotel made little effort to entertain, didn't even have the usual leaflet area for 'what-to-do' which was left to the reps to provide. Free Wifi available in reception but payable elsewhere. Kids ok as they fortunately met up with others and did their own stuff most of the time. Parents appeared mostly bored or perhaps resorted to drink, wandering aimlessly around as no local shops/bars anywhere nearby. Even tried watching ALJazeera news channel which constituted the only English language satellite tv in each room. Got thru several books thanks to Kindle.
Restaurant areas impossible to book unless you got up at 7 am but were good when you got there - actually not really restaurants but more like small cafe sized areas with about 10 tables in each hence the difficulty in booking.
Overall has the potential to be a good hotel but let down by lack of entertainment and poor location which makes for a very average holiday experience.
Gymnasium consisted of just a few machines which were additional charge.
Pools ok but unusually was salt water.
Not a 5* experience and a very disappointing holiday considering the cost.

Room Tip: One of main reasons we chose was because of the family room - which has a separate area with 2 beds...

One of the if the best Hotel I've stayed at for overall satisfaction. Lots of Wow, Great layout, lovely food etc.......

Only real negatives were the awful entertainment, poor Cocktails at the Pool side - otherwise a fantastic holiday & would definitely consider going back.

Room Tip: Could'nt see that any rooms would be bad!

Excellent resort, nice and spacious rooms, service and food in the main restaurant was perfect (also enough variation - I was really surprised by the choice and the quality), friendly staff, very clean. We really had a very good holiday.
Only little minus is the staff at the reception. Maybe they were understaffed because of peak season but that doesn't justify rude behavior and false promises. A pity that the hotel management doesn't invest in more qualified and friendly people at the reception. Wifi (even the paid Wifi) is very slow - so at the end you stop trying to check your work emails and you only concentrate on the family (maybe it's done on purpose).
However, don't let this be a reason for not going to the Mitsis Laguna. You'll have a very nice holiday and the location is perfect to visit Crete. Tip: rent a car and discover the Island - also Jeep Safari has to be on to do list.
Really an excellent hotel to spend your holiday with the kids.

Room Tip: We had a family room - small balcony and a bit far from the pools. Next time I would ask for a room...

Just got back from my third visit, up to usual high standard. Noticed subtle changes since last year. Drink and cool flannel on arrival, pool waiter round the main pool, when you just can't be bothered to leave your super comfy sunbed. I rang ahead and requested a room on the laguna island overlooking the a la carte restaurants and that is exactly what I got, however regretted this request quite quickly as was eaten alive by mosquitoes and had a fly problem in the bathroom, consequently chose not to open bathroom window, which resulted in a foisty smelling bathroom!! Totally my fault though as should have realised that where there is water there are flies! For this reason I would stick to rooms in the main building. The staff here make this hotel and work so hard, Shakira was lovely, only got to speak to her very briefly round the pool, but she was happy and talk to all the holiday makers in any language!! Won't be going back next year as my husband says that after three years in a row, I really need to discover that there is a world outside of Crete. Will go back in about three years time and can't wait already.

Room Tip: Avoid laguna island, too many flies and mosquitoes.

We have just got back from a truly outstanding stay at the Laguna. The surrounding area is not that much to write home about and we were a little underwhelmed with that as we arrived at the hotel on our first day.
Reception and check-in was smooth; a warm welcome from the helpful ladies on the front desk. Our room certainly had the wow factor with very tasteful decor and it certainly provided spacious accommodation for our few days here.
Restaurants were plentiful for us and I defy anybody to say that the food was samey and boring. I wonder what these people eat at home that is more varied. The buffet restaurant was well stocked at all meals although, unusually for us, it was the breakfast that we felt was our least favourite. Maybe that was because everything else was superb! We ate Asian, Italian (spaghetti seafood was absolutely outstanding!), Cretan, Mexican and, our favourite, Japanese Sushi. If that wasn't enough the Creperie offered both savoury and sweet crepes/pancakes freshly made. The Sushi restaurant is the only one that bookings are not required for as long as tables are available. The food throughout our stay was top quality, fresh and well-cooked. The ice-cream was offered in many flavours (moreso at the creperie) and the best we have tasted for some time.
Entertainment was offered in the main bar in the evening as well as over at the "theatre" by the second pool. Alcoholic drinks were of generally good quality and the "Champagne" Bar became our favourite haunt - watching sun sets in an adult only environment.
As has been documented by others already, the only negatives that we found were the free wifi was very limited, very weak on bandwidth and pot-luck as to whether it would let you join. The poolside sunbeds were very comfortable but there were insufficient available at peak times and the only guarantee of getting one was to reserve it (like everybody else!) as early as possible. Not really a 5 star practice in my book (what's happened to being greeted with a towel and shown to your sunbed by a poolside assistant?)!!![tongue-in-cheek].

We thoroughly recommend the Laguna. The staff work hard to make your stay so enjoyable and greet you with a smile. A thirty minute ride from the airport in a taxi (cost £30 approx) and you arrive in a perfect bubble of perfection with lots of wow factor.

We shall be back!

Stayed at the Mitsis Laguna Resort and Spa from 12th-19th July 2014 with a friend. From the moment we arrived we were wowed with the hotel and how lovely and clean the place was, it really was exactly like the pictures! Stayed in the main hotel block with our room looking out over the front of the hotel, it was a very quiet room, did not hear any hotel noises. As we arrived at 11.30pm there was a plate of sandwiches waiting in our room along with a fully stocked fridge. Went for a walk to the bar and it was really quiet as was the Creperie too (open until late). We were able to book the restaurants easily (there are 5 specialist you need to book at reception) and ate in the main restaurant for breakfast and some main meals. The food was great and always plenty to choose from.
The main pool was great and we were always able to get a sun lounger. Towels are available (20euros deposit each - refundable) and you can get a fresh towel every day if you need.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, great to have drinks brought to you by the pool or whenever you are sat in the bar area.
Also I had a spa treatment on the last day which was great and really relaxed me for the journey home.
Overall we had a great week and I would recommend the hotel and area to anyone wanting a first class relaxing time.
If you want to escape the hotel try the Road Train that picks up from the beach road - great way to see more of the island.

Room Tip: We just stuck with the standard twin room and it was great!

Stayed at the Laguna on a short break at the end of May. Only a short transfer from the airport and a warm welcome at the hotel. The hotel cannot really be faulted. It is spotlessly clean throughout. Staff are constantly ensuring that this standard is maintained. Our room was quiet with a sea view as requested but close enough to all the restaurants, bars and pools. Food was of a very high standard and the buffet selection always varied and very well presented. The front of house manager always ensured we had a table outside and the waiting staff always very efficient and polite. Tried 2 of the speciality restaurants which were very good and if anything there was too much to eat! The service at the all day bar was excellent - always a smile and the barman usually remembered our order even when very busy. The champagne bar always a real treat at the end of the day - again the waitress was excellent. Tried a spa treatment which was superb - again I received first class service and thought it to be good value. All in all an excellent hotel and I enjoyed it so much have booked to go back with the family at the end of August. Can't wait ...
