This little family taverna in the town of Agios Nikolaos seemed a bit off the tourist track, so all the better. We were rather early for lunch by Greek standards, but there didn’t seem to be a problem. A covered courtyard with trees and shrubs and electric fans provided very pleasant surroundings for a simple and inexpensive lunch of a cabbage salad, meatballs, spinach and herb parcels and delicious sautéed broad beans, with entertainment provided by the owners sweet young grandchildren, who seemed as much at home at the restaurant as at home! Despite the delightful family atmosphere, perhaps I would have liked to see a slightly more “cared for” dining area in terms of cleanliness, but that’s just me. Would recommend for those after something traditional during their Cretan visit.
