nostalgic trip back to ag nik after 26 yrs! 5 lads came and stayed in a villa in 1987 so this time i travelled solo and gave the coral a try. location is great short stroll from town. i was given room 506 at the side of the hotel overlooking the unfinished building but as all i needed was a room to sleep and get changed in i didnt really mind. i was staying half board and really couldnt fault the food. you basically knew what to expect at meal times but it was presented well in buffet style. the so called surly restaurant manager kept things in order food wise and if you took the time out to smile he always returned the compliment! true some parts of the hotel need updating and the carpets leading from level 2 could do with a good clean. but no cokroaches here. hotel seemed quite full. basically middle aged and upwards, never saw children apart from a couple of teenage girls staying with their grandmother next room to me which brings me to my only serious gripe, why is it when people close their bedroom doors they have to bang it or when opening and shutting wardrobes they have to make a noise like theres an earthquake, must be only us brits who have manners. i thought all the staff were very curtious especially on reception who were very helpfull. i caught the suns rays across the road on the sunbeds on the concrete diving platform more of a breeze there. as i basically stayed round the town ifound some nice hidden gems of restaurants behind the town near the marina and beyond. really you just need to go bandb as i thought the prices pretty reasonable. elounda is well worth a visit, 15 mins on the bus from town, quite a laid back little town but very nice with a couple of beaches 5 mins walk away. going back to the coral yes i would recommend it. but dont forget its only a 3 star i never sampled the evening entertainment as i was always out after dinner sampling the raki! one last important note to remember is friday is there busiest time at the airport. coming no probs, going home chaos, we all had to que outside the airport for 30 mins then allowed in dribs and drabs cos it was so busy and the sgns in the airport are useless as they dont tell you where to go when you have finally checked in. has ag nik changed since 26 yrs ago, well not really probably a few more shops etc. but ooh that airport!

Room Tip: choose a higher room and of course a sea view if your with a partner

Just back from week in the Coral. Like other reviews I agree some public areas are in need of attention, but saying that the hotel was very clean, and the staff helpful.

We had sea view room- this is a must we were in room 721. The view is amazing, I have attached a picture. We were on half board, the restaurant is clean, airy and selection at breakfast was excellent. We tried evening meal once, this was OK, but we preferred eating out in Agios.

Our room was maintained daily, towels changed daily, fridge and air con also good.

This is a good 3* star hotel and I would stay again as the views are exceptional.

Tip, transfer was 1hr on arrival, due to pick ups going back this was 2.5 hrs. I would take taxi to main bus station and take bus to Heraklion and get off at airport this rakes 1 hr

We stayed for 11 nights at this hotel and the upgrade to seaview rooms is a no brainer (we stayed in room 623), the views are stunning. The hotel in general is showing its age a little in the public areas apart from the bar area which has recently been improved.

Our bedroom was very clean and comfortable and the maids changed the towels daily, nothing to complain about really. The food was quite good in general but obviously after a week it then becomes a bit repetative, the dining room is very airy and well managed by the staff. The fact this is an adult only hotel gives the restaurant a calming feel in my opinion.

The pool area and all inclusive drinks are of a good standard and well presented but i think there should be a little bit more entertainment on offer in the main bar at night.

The hotel is blessed with very good staff from the waitresses and manager in the dining area to the receptionists and also the people working the bar areas.

I found George on reception to be exceptional and a very friendly man and also Alexia who runs the pool bar and Mariana in the main bar to also be a credit to the hotel. Thank You.

If you bear in mind this is a 3 star hotel and not 5 star you will appreciate your stay more, its a comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: Request a sea view room on a high floor.

We had a fantastic time in Crete
Our representatives from Olympic holidays Emma was wonderful and very approachable and fun and very easy to talk too
and was at the hotel regularly to help and advice us.
We did have a few issues of racism from some of the hotel staff and other guess in the hotel which was very disappointing
but we didn't let this spoil our holiday, and we did meet some really nice and friendly staff and guess too...
The hotel was very clean and tidy.... We would have liked clean blue beach towels daily instead of every other day....
The food in the restaurant was ok... The food was the same style all week for lunch and dinner which is very boring for a whole week. Also the chef couldn't make well done eggs, which is a shame! The main bar in the hotel had no atmosphere and the drinks and cocktails on offer at the pool side for all inclusive are not value for money. Also if you have hotel rules for deck chair and correct dress wear for dinner..... Staff need to make sure all guess are following these rules correctly.... and there are not single out individual who watch other guess all week not dress correctly.

Went here for 2 weeks all inclusive. It takes over 2 hours transfer with the other drop offs that are needed. We booked a sea view room. (Extra cost of 168 euros.) We were put on the 7th floor. Room was okay. Reasonable size with 2 singles pushed together. When we moved the beds, it was clear that they hadn't cleaned under them. The snacks that were part of the all inclusive were non-existant. There was no animation team as advertised. The shows that are advertised as 3 times a week are actually 3 times every 2 weeks. The pool bar is okay but you have to pay for snacks/food up there. (I thought that's what we had already paid for). The downstairs bar has no atmosphere at all. The pool itself is okay. Bit cold but it is a seawater pool. There is a policy of not reserving sunbeds, but this was ignored and the management did nothing to follow it's ruling. The food was absolutely the worst I've ever eaten in any hotel in the world. If you want veal every night, then that's okay. Chicken and pork was undercooked. My wife ended up with food poisoning. She also got an infection from the way they make cocktails in large jugs without cleaning them first. Have they never heard of cross contamination? The rep was quite good and got me a meeting with the management, (a phone call) and agreed to let us eat at the sister hotel a few doors away. That was a 4 star Iberostar and the food was lots better. Do yourself a favour and do not book this for your holiday. It cost us a lot for this holiday and as it was our 10th wedding anniversary, I thought it would be great with what I read on the tour company website and it's brochure. I am seeking compensation for such a terrible hotel. Oh yes, it's supposed to be adults only. It's not and I have the pictures to prove it!

This was our second stay at the Coral - the previous visit being 2 years ago. We love the location right on the seafront with a short walk to the harbour, town and 2 beaches one way and our favourite Ammoundi beach the other way. We booked a sea view room again, as we love sitting on the balcony looking at the amazing view. The hotel overlooks a small pebbly beach area which was made slightly wider when we were there by lifting a JCB over the sea wall - an amazing operation to watch! Health and Safety officials in the UK would have had a coronary with workmen in bare feet, people still sitting on the beach and not a hi vis jacket in sight! But it definitely made the beach area wider. Sunbeds are the same price on all beaches at 2.5 euro for the day and 2 for a parasol.
This stay we had a room on the 2nd floor, which we were worried may be too noisy, but it was one of the rooms that has been modernised so was a lovely room and there was minimum traffic noise late at night. We were always awake early though as it was a bit noisy in the morning, especially on bin collection days! The advantage of the 2nd floor is that you can just use the stairs all the time, so good exercise!
The room which was immaculately clean had 2 single beds, tea making facilities, beach towels, hairdryer and an old style small tv. Air conditioning and a small safe were included for no extra charge. Towels and bedding were changed frequently.
We arrived around 10pm and there was a salad, apple and water for each of us in the fridge which tided us over until we got a gyros in town after a few hours in various harbour side bars then Alexandras music bar!
The food is still excellent here - a great choice of home cooked Greek style food, lots of salad, bread, ice cream and desserts. Breakfast for me was Greek yogurt with honey and fruit but there was a full range of cooked food and cold meats and cheeses, cake, cereal and bread. All the restaurant staff are efficient and the dining room is very well organised and run. I do think they should change their dress code though to allow smart shorts for men as it was too hot to wear long trousers when we were there. I agree with having no beach shorts or vest tops though and we like that the hotel is now adults only as it was not suitable for kids.
We had lunch and dinner here some days and ate out on others as there is a great choice of restaurants in the area. We love the food at Christophylis, where we ate last time too, so another few visits were made there.
We were pleasantly surprised to see the vast improvements made to the bar area - from a dingy wooden basement to a fresh clean modern room. The bar staff were excellent and work extremely hard. There is only entertainment on 3 nights a week but there are plenty of places to go in town so this was not a problem for us. We did stay for the Greek night though which was great fun as the dancers encouraged guests to join in and taught us dance steps!
The rooftop pool area has great views and we sat here a couple of mornings. There is a bar there which opens at 10am and serves snacks. Again, very helpful and pleasant staff.
We had a great stay again which just went too quickly and I hope we will return here soon.

We had an outstanding holiday at the Coral hotel
No one can deny that parts of the very clean well run Coral are in need of refurbishment except, for instance, the immaculate buffet restaurant with a good choice of great food. Its astounding attention to detail in presentation and decor is amazing.
We never used the sun deck with pool. It looked good with plenty of sun loungers and sea views. We preferred to use the shingle beach at the front of the hotel. Used it everyday to sunbathe and swim in the warm sea.
Credit to the friendly, hard working staff from all departments for making our holiday a success.
We hope to return soon.
