“Perfect place for a perfect holiday”
Reviewed 14 July 2008

We have just come home from the most perfect holiday at the Paradise Appartments. Toula is an absolute treasure, she is hard working, kind and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and she works from early morning till late at night. I wanted to bring her home!! The appartments and clean, bright and spacious and conveniently located away from the noise and bright lights of the town. The local beach (Havania) is a 3 minute walk away with wonderful crystal blue seas, perfect for snorkelling and swimming. It costs 2 euro 50 for each sunbed and the same for a parasol. The shade was a must as it was very hot, although every day there was a cooling breeze which helped to make the temperature more bearable. The pool at the appartments is small but ideal for those days when you just want to chill. Drink and snacks are always available thanks to Toula and are reasonably priced. The walk into town takes about 45 mins but can be made more enjoyable by stopping at the many bars and tavernas on the way down. The views as you approach the town are stunning and there are many camera opportunities to be had. The food is delicious everywhere we went with the staff being friendly and helpful. My partner is a vegetarian and he ate like a king. The best meals we had were a mixture of the fabulous starters mezze style, stuffed mushrooms, peppers filled with feta, stuffed vine leaves to name but a few. Our personal favorite was feta saganaki which is a generous slice of feta cheese dipped in egg and flour then fried, utterly gorgeous. We tried the Galley bar as recommended in another review and had a superb meal, very reasonable priced and wonderful owners who make you very welcome. We also had a lovely meal at the last restaurant as you get to the bottom of the hill. Yani the waiter was a delight and was on hand to help us polish up our Greek. They love it if you make an effort to try and say a few words in their native tongue and fall over themselves to help you. Our absolute favorite place to eat was at the marina. Many of the guests at the appartments were unaware that the marina was there. When you get into the town you walk up through one of the side streets where all the shops are located until you get to a square. You then walk down over the other side and you come to the marina where all the beautiful private boats are moored. The restaurant is the last one on the right hand side and was fabulous. We went there again on our last night and our table was moved to the waters edge. The restaurant is frequented mainly by greek families (always a good sign) and we whiled away many hours watching the tables grow as more and more family members joined them. We allowed the owner to order for us both times after first explaining that one of us was a vegetarian and we had the best food I've ever eaten. The food was reasonably priced and he even threw in desserts and coffee free. Definately a must for a romantic evening. A trip to Spinalonga Island is definately recommended, but don't book it through the tour operators. They charge 40 euros, we walked to the harbour and booked the same trip for 10 euros! The boat follows the coast around then stops to allow you to swim off the back, then on to the island. The guide was knowledgable and informative and brought the past to life. Its a fascinating place and not knowing anything about its infamous past I found the whole tour extremely interesting. We only went to Crete for a week on a last minute deal, but if we'd gone though a hundred brochures we couldn't have picked a more beautiful place. Would we go to Paradise Appartments again? In a heartbeat!!!

I have just come back from Paradise apts and have never felt more at home anywhere in the world Tula is cook of the year in our opinion , she will cook every meal fresh when you order. The apartments are spotless which give us no option other than to leave Kim a tip at the end of our stay, believe me she deserves it. Kim is an ex pat and her knowledge of the area is fantastic. kim we love you thanks a million for making our holiday a dream . If you fancy a nice treat and giving tula a night off the"Kri Kri " resturaunt a ten minute walk from the apts is the place to head ,good food at the right price.

Travel writer Conde-Nest and for Trailfinders.

Very Very nice apartments, we had Split level with two balconies.
all Mod cons Air-con 10euros per day if you want it, but worth if in July august.

We arrived at 3 in the morning. It was about an hour from the airport. First Impressions are wonderful, the view from rooms 37-38 are great and right by the pool area. Tula is wonderful and very hardworking all the time. The location is about 2.5k from agios nikolas port town. The beach is about 100 metres form the apartments Haviana, is lovley uncrowded and full of locals. the best time to swim is around 7-8pm. if you want a relaxed take-it easy holiday then def come here, the town isn't to far and it has everything, I also suggest a boat trip around the bays for about 65 euros snorkelling and sailing. The name of the boat is ''Annie'' fantastic value for money and you get a nice lunch as well.

we went for a week with First-Choice

  • Liked — The view and the space of the apartment
  • Disliked — The Beds could be a little softer, but all beds in self-cat are the same

We have just come home from a peaceful and relaxing two weeks at the paradise apartments. The apartments are spacious and clean with very basic kitchen equipment to self cater. Tula who owns the apartment is very friendly and is happy to help with all your needs. The cleaner kim who works 6 days a week non stop is also a great help if you need anything. The local beach havania is only 2 minutes away from the apartments and were very quite. The pool at the apartment is very deep and not very practical for the little ones.
The apartments are set back away from the main town of agios nikolaos and will take you approximatley an hour to walk into the center of town. Taxis are 6 euros if you choose not to walk into town. As we have gone at the begging of the season we had a ten minute walk to the closest shop (which is very expensive but found a spar in town which is moe reasonable). We ended up hiring a quad bike for 40 euros for 3 days to explore the area and access the town easily. The best resturant we found was a british bar called the Galley which had a large range of food british and greek which was reasonably priced.
We went on two trips with first choice to spinalonga and knossos palace - I would reccomend both trips.
I have one little moan and that is if you are flying with first choice from gatwick, i would come to the airport early to check in as we arrived at 4;15am and we was queuing up for over an hour to check in because of first choice and thompson merging into one company and only having limited desks. (you may also have this problem when leaving on your way home at herkalion)

we have just returned from two weeks here,i must say we had a great time ths appartment is basic but comfortable havania beach is close at hand and the elotia taverna is without a shadow of doubt one of the best places i have ever eaten the owner is one of the nicests people you could possibly wish to meet the local town is a short bus ride away and only 1 euro thirty to travel but the buses are nothing like back home they are really comfortable and exceptionally clean the local shop owner is also a lovely woman and nothing is to much trouble if you need help elounda is a must visit and get a full english breakfast from the cypriana it is outstanding both in quality and value the weather was very hot the only drawback i can mention is if your flight is a early morning one like mine 04.35 its a long old day and waiting about to go gets quite boring also go for a meal at the seagull by agios lake he does a really nice swordfish and chips food in general is nice and a good variety of dishes to choose from in total nice accomadation and the owner works her fingers to the bone some days putting in over 14 hour days

Arrived early morning from East Mids to the Paradise Apartments. Yes it was a pain lugging 6 suitcases down four flights of stairs, although thankfully you didnt need to use the entrance again until the flight home.

We booked a 3 bed apartment as a late deal on the internet and overall was pleased with the apartment which was generally clean with nice linen and decent towels changed regularly. The bonus was the three (yes three) terraces/balconies (one with sea view). The only complaint was that the kitchen could have done with a better clean and the fridge and cooker could have done with being replaced.

The pool was nice with plenty of sunbeds - no rush to get one in the mornings and of course the lovely Tulla.

The poolside bar was OK. Average fare and OK prices.

Not having been to any Greek Island , I have to say that we really loved Crete. The weather, the friendly people and the warm calm sea.

The apartments are a couple of minutes from Havania Beach (partly sand and shingle) and a 30 minute walk to Ag Nik with plenty of restaurants/bars to stop off along the way if you wish.

We found Olgas restaurant (again only a couple of minutes away from the aparmtents) to be really nice with a great view of the ocean from all tables. We also visited Kri Kri further along the AG Nik road and liked the atmosphere, staff and food good.

Ag Nik was really nice with a lake at its centre and some really expensive restaurants. We tried Du Lacs. The ambience and setting were lovely with food not being overly special but about twice the price we paid elsewhere!

We visited the waterpark which I would thoroughly recommend but go in the week and not week-ends as I would imagine it would be busy with the locals as well as holidaymakers.

All in all we had a wonderful time at Paradise Apartments and Crete and would return but perhaps not to Paradise Apartments partly because we found that combined with the price we had paid for the holiday along with the cost of food and drink we could have stayed in a hotel.

Go though, I'm sure you will have a great/restful holiday.l

The apartments are a good 30-minute walk from Agios Nikolaos, along the coast road. Taxis are cheap though - €6 each way. It's a nice walk to town - you pass loads of bars and restaurants so you can always go into one of them to break the journey! Havania Beach is lovely - not sandy but pebbly for the most part, but with great views and lovely clean water. Olga's and Elotia's tavernas near the beach are both nice and good value. We ate lunch in Paradise's pool bar occasionally, and this was just your average bar food. No problem with it. Toula was lovely - very friendly and helpful. The pool's just the right size for the apartments, you could always get a sunbed. Our apartment was clean (and someone came to clean it every two days - and towels were replaced regularly too) but very basic. The terrace outside was lovely though. The only problem with the apartments is the steep steps to get up to the main road (where the transfer buses pick you up and drop you off). It was a bit of a pain lugging a suitcase up four flights of steps! Overall - good value and nice apartments, but far from the action. OK if you don't mind walking!
