“Lovely hotel, shop around before you book with First Choice/Thomson”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2011

Great holiday, met some lovely people as did our children, the daytime entertainments team work tirelessly to keep guests busy and were brilliant (you could join in whenever you wanted). There are mixed nationalities here and the entertainments team, I felt, helped people to socialise together, which was novel - my husband became friendly with French and German men taking part in the activities which was unusual for him as he doesn't speak any languages.
The hotel and village complexes are quiet small in comparison to other places we have visited which makes it ideal for keeping tabs on our 15 year old - public areas were always clean.
Our Family Room in the hotel was slightly disappointing - it had two bedrooms and two bathrooms and although it was kept spotless just a tad basic, but hey it did the job. If you can afford I would book a pool room in the village - these looked lovely, we tried to upgrade when we got there but all rooms were occupied. The maid always left us a flower on the bed and sweets for the children.
The beach bar was lovely, really chilled and the people working were always friendly. The lady making lunchtime kebabs was great too!
Just a few niggles.........
Don't book with First Choice/Thomson's - shop around because others paid a lot less with All Inc included.
We decided to upgrade from the first day to All Inc and for 2 adults a 15 year old and 10 year it was nearly 130e per day. An extra 1600.00e for 2 weeks! Drinks were extortionate at 2.50e for a coke, 5e for lager and 6.50 for a bacardi and coke. Bearing in mind the £ is similar to the Euro I think Greece has tasked this hotel on it's own to recover their Government debt!! Such a rip off and the town centre was the same with two cocktails and two milkshakes costing 25.00e. Needless to say we spent a fortune - looking elsewhere for next year.
Reception staff would always start "I don't...." or "No" - that bugged me too - asked to swop our meal on HB the second week for lunch at 11.30 and was told too late. All she did the following day was hand write a ticket - come on!
When all inc the first week - we were served drinks at the entertainment in paper cups - not plastic or glass - this is lazy and only made the drinks blow over.
As for people wearing long trousers - there were some people in knee length shorts, quite a few in our second week.
The First Choice rep was useless - only wanted to sell his trips. I asked him about the teenage club and he hadn't got a clue, sent me back to reception, very poor. I asked him because all activities in the first week were up to 14 with older ones joining in with the adults. During the second week we suddenly had teenage activities and the teenagers were not allowed to join in with the adults - confusing policies add to the list!

My 14 year old son and I returned from the Mirabello yesterday having thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd year of holidaying at this fantastic resort. If, like me you are a single parent, you will know that if they are happy you will be too. And can I just say that the Mirabello offers some of the best distractions, entertainment and fun - for 14 year old and 40 year olds alike. The food was, again, superb (fresh and varied). The 'animation team' were better than last year. The accommodation was clean, cool and well maintained. What more to ask for - we're already planning to return next August. See you there!

This hotel excelled in all areas to give us a fantastic holiday. The staff were friendly and efficient with excellent service. The food was of high standard, freshly produced and with a huge variety which kept both a toddler and teenager very happy. Our family room in the main hotel was perfect being a suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and shared balcony.
I was concerned from some comments that the beach might not be ideal but in fact there was plenty of sand and a big sunshade for children to play under and the snorkelling was brilliant even close to the shore. There are 2 coves next to each other and plenty of sunbeds although you do have to pay 5 euros for 2 sunbeds and the shade each day. Literally 1 minute up the slope is one of the hotel's pools with free sunbeds if you get there early enough!
The gardens are lovely to wander through with lots of paths meandering up the hill to a beautiful chapel situated next to a great children's playground.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel especially for families wanting a bit more space rather than all being jammed together in one room.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room in the main hotel as the village area can be a bit of a trek in the heat

This hotel has a systematic approach to serving the travellers. The whole process is very smooth and precise starting from check-in to check-out. Hotel is functioning like a swiss watch.

We stayed in the main building.

Location - very picturesque bay. Hotel has its own 2 beaches. Sunbeds on the beach (2 chairs and the umbrella) cost 5 eur, starting from 15 PM free of charge. Long chairs near the pool are free of charge all day log. Hotel is a 20 minuts relaxed walk to Agios Nicalaos center.

Food - food in the hotell was so good that we ate out only twice and only because we were out for trips with a car. Recomendation is to take all-inclusive package. Otherwise all drinks are 2-3 eur, water 500ml 2 eur, lunch for extra charge.

Entertainment and animation - hotel team is fantastic. Games and activities are fun.

Sanitary conditions - rooms are cleened every day. Beach towels are free of charge and you can change them whenever you like.

Things we (as experienced and demanding travellers) did not like about the hotel but which probably will not kill your stay:
* receptionists (especially one russian lady - Karina I guess), will most probably not tell you the thuth about available rooms on different floors.
* you will be dissapoited with the quality of double beds and pillows - very uncomfortable for that class of hotel.
* room service starts making noise by moving wooden furniture on ceramic floor at 9 AM. So forget late wakeups if you are not a deep-sleeper.

Recomendation on car hire: do not take car from car rental next to hotel which is called "ECONOMY rent a car" - most probably there will be a problem with the car, cars are filthy and you will not get a right insurance coverage.

Generally greek 5star is something different from the european 5 star.
If you look for a nice vacation with little trouble choose a hotel from IBEROSTAR group - most probably you will enjoy it.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are good. Nothing fancy, but cleaned every day. Room service makes much noise at 9 AM...

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Hotel and grounds are spotless. The quality and quantity of food available at meal times was excellent and with a variety of bars, some with entertainment, this hotel makes the perfect holiday.
Note for gents - long trousers compulsory for dinner!!!!

Room Tip: make sure you ask for a sea view

We went for vacations in October , so we decided to go to Crete for a better chance of havin( a fine weather, and we stayed in Mirabello village in a bungalow with a private pool. The main part of the hotel may not be so good, but the village, which is up the road, is a special place to be. Very spacious rooms, well furnished, excellent bath and a small but nice pool, only for us!! All these, in a very reasonable price. Although the hotel had many groups of tourists who had selected the all inclusive option, we had decided To have only breakfast and go out for dining, as the citY is very near to the hotel and had many places to eat and have a nice stroll. Breakfast was very good, enriched with some local products and you could have it on a terrace with avery nice sea view. The village pool also was excellent and quiet, the other one near the sea was too busy and crowded. The only thing I didn't like was the sea in front of the hotel, although the beach bar was very nice. The sea was a little bit muddy (Greeks we know of better beach options...), and you had to pay for the sunbeds, but for us it was not a problem- in a short distance there were lovely beaches to choose from! So, don't be afraid, go to Crete even in October, you wont loose any bath because of the weather!!

Room Tip: Choose the village, not the main building
