“Great hotel, great view, fantastic staff”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

Just came back from a lovely holiday at Mirabello village. Had a really fun time, beautiful hotel and very, helpful, cheerful and friendly staff. Our kids (6 and 10) loved the activities and kids club staff, they joined in now and again, you did not have to sign up or book in, just turn up when they felt like it. We enjoyed the daily, friendly beach volleyball games with a bunch of mixed Europeans -everyone was made welcome to join in. The evening shows was not great, but the kids liked them.
Overall great hotel, really friendly staff and guests. Only downside, was the first few nights spent in the noisy family room - with road noise on one side and lift noise on the other. According to the staff, all family rooms are located between the road and lift. Once we changed to a maisonette in the village on the other side of the road, we got a fantastic terrace with sea view, and quiet location. However, had to pay 50 Euros extra per night - but there were no other choice, since could not sleep in the family room. So if you are a light sleeper - don't book a family room, or check before booking (our noisy room was room no. 430). Also, we booked half board, but ended up spending quite a bit since the drinks, including water in the resort and with meals were really expensive.
Still had a lovely time - sun, swim, beach volleyball, met some lovely people, lovely hotel.fantastic staff and beautiful sea views.

Room Tip: Family rooms are a bit noisy - road noise and lift noise in the early morning - don't recommend...

We had a lovely stay at the Mirabello last week. The hotel has a beautiful location in a private bay with lots of outdoor space to relax in. It is spotless and has truly excellent staff who were always happy to help or even just have a general chat. They work extremely hard and made our week very enjoyable.

Although it is advertised as a five star hotel, I think four star is a more appropriate rating. The food was fine - a buffet with masses of choice but not the quality you would get in a 5 star hotel normally. Having said that, it was perfectly acceptable and there was plenty of it!

Although located a little out of the town, this wasn't a problem for us as it was a bit quieter. Taxis were cheap - 6 euros to Agios Nikolaos and we also used the local buses quite a lot as these were clean, air conditioned and stopped right outside the hotel. For anyone without a transfer from the airport included in their holiday package, we found the local bus a very cheap and easy alternative at just 7 euros for the hour and a quarter journey. A taxi was 80 euros!

Thanks again to the Mirabello for a great holiday.

Room Tip: We were in the vIllage part of the hotel rather than the main building and were very happy with our...

We visited the first week of May 2012 and had a really good time with our 2 kids. The family rooms are fantastic, spacious with huge balconies. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Breakfast (buffet style) was good with plenty of variation to suit everyone.Staff were very helpful esp the entertainment team who were brilliant with our 5 year old.
We hired a car and travelled to Agios Nik fr dinner almost every night, again plenty of choice but I want to mention Amalthea which served amazing food, a far cry from the usual touristy stuff other restaurants serve.
Liked Ag Nik very much, small and compact but might get very busy at peak tourist season. The hotel property was a huge sprawling complex, again very nice.
If you get a chance use the spa facilities, hammam and the sauna. Lots more to say but I suppose all I will say is that I will def go there again!!! and I dont usually say that, the world being a v big place and all that)..

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 6th floor fr the views. The only reason there arent 5 stars everywhere is...

I am typing this on the Easyjet "sleeper service" from Heraklion to Manchester whilst everyone else is snoring away.
We (two couples aged 49-55 but still think we're 30 somethings) checked out of the Iberostar Mirabello Beach Hotel a few hours ago, on 1 June, after 10 thoroughly enjoyable all inclusive days & nights. I find it hard to fathom how anyone can find serious fault with the Hotel; although I have included a couple of constructive 'suggestions' along the way.
The Mirabello staff and animation team are unfailingly cheerful, helpful and efficient.
The dining room is a well oiled machine overseen by Maitre 'D Manolis and we were well looked after by all his team with special mentions going to Anna & Valters. Even the fussiest eater is hard pressed to choose what to have from the wide range of dishes on offer; the food is plentiful & most importantly delicious. Unable to make up our minds, we regularly returned to our tables with some odd combinations on our plates and we are all at least 7lbs heavier than the day we arrived.
I emailed the hotel in advance to request adjacent rooms on an upper floor. They duly obliged by allocating rooms 517 & 518 which enjoy a panoramic, glorious view of Mirabello Bay, the hotel's 2 small beaches and the main pool. The balcony is shaded during the day but benefits from the evening sun. If you prefer the sun in the morning then I expect they will do their best to accommodate you if you ask in advance.  Our air conditioned room was well equipped although the beds mights be slightly firm for some.  There was a range of products in the bathroom and the over-bath shower was powerful enough.  Towels are replaced daily with housekeeping staff being efficient & unobtrusive.  Most of the items in the mini bar are free to all inclusive guests and tea & coffee making facilities are provided.
The excellent animation team gently cajoled guests into a wide range of activities with something for all ages & abilities. Standout members of the team Nina, Mitch & Mihaela work energetically leading aqua gym, Pilates & stretching sessions in the morning, and rather more sedate shuffleboard & boules tournaments later on. The team were all still going  strong at midnight which was usually when we [no-longer 30 somethings] usually called it a day.  We particularly enjoyed trying our hand at archery and air rifle shooting although I am not sure the very bubbly Mihaela is the best choice to oversee weaponry of any kind. Mitch's calmer nature is much better suited to arrows & pellets. They were all stars and really enhanced our enjoyment.
If I am being truthful, the evening entertainment was a little patchy.  All a matter of taste really. The best on show  included a decent soul singer who majored on James Brown but dabbled in reggae and a bit of Prince; a Greek dance act with a live band who reminded us we were in Greece and an extremely athletic Brazilian dance troupe whose two female dancers' bottoms could only be rivalled by Dimitri's behind the bar (my wife's observation not mine). An opportune point to thank Dimitri & his colleagues on the beautifully appointed beach bar for their wonderful service too.  At the other end of the scale we had a magician who just about kept the kids attention and the inevitable karaoke night when the same two or three people, who think they can sing but couldn't get past the X Factor auditions, inflicted their 'talents' on those of us who know we can't sing. One constructive suggestion for the DJ, if these sessions are to improve, you really must get a livelier Karaoke DVD. I think North Korea used the same one he has as the soundtrack to Kim Jong Il's funeral.
Last word on the entertainment or in this instance, a lack of... the hotel has a very plush Lobby Bar with a grand piano which no one plays. That room is crying out for a cruise ship style singer/pianist that suits the demographic, who could really get the place going. I understand the hotel want to keep a peaceful space in the evenings but it is just too peaceful.
In summary, the Mirabello Beach is perfect for families & couples looking for a relaxing holiday. It is not for the 18-30 crowd looking for a wild time. The hotel is ideally located and well served by buses & taxis (€6 into Agios Nikolaos - go to Alexandro's Roof Top Bar by the lake).  The hotel fully merits its 5 star rating; its biggest asset being the staff who are a credit to the Iberostar brand.

This was a fantastic place to stay. The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly, the food was fantastic. I didn't join in with the activities but the staff were absolutely brilliant in trying to get all those involved, but were not pushy with it. We loved it so much we have booked our holiday for next year on the night we came home. We were with friends and none of them had a bad word to say.
The only down side was nothing to do with the hotel, we like a walk and to have a drink at bars not too far away and there wasn't any. However if you walked to Agios Nikolaos, there were some lovely bars and some great restaurants.

My partner and I stayed here in May '12. We arrived at about 23:30. We were given a really nice welcome and taken to the snack bar where we were given soup with a variety of breads, and salad with cold cuts and cheese. While we ate, our bags were taken to our room. The room was big enough for two. Two single beds pushed together, a small couch and a longish counter with the TV and kettle, (mini bar under counter, V expensive). The balcony gave a really nice view of the beach and harbour area. Clean towels every day, sheets changed once a week. The food was pretty good for hotel food with plenty of choices, but we did end up getting fed up with it. There's a hairdryer in the bathroom which is a bit of a pain to use as you have to keep your arm well raised to keep it on. You can borrow an iron from reception, but you only have it for 30-40 minutes. We found all the staff to be really friendly and helpful. There's a supermarket directly across from the hotel which is pretty well stocked. The staff in there are friendly and helpful too. There's not much around and it's about a 30 minute walk to Agios Nikolaos. We hired a car for one week but found that other than archaeological sites, there wasn't a great deal to see or do. The evening entertainment sounded good. It was held on the beach with chairs and tables around the stage area. They also have daytime entertainment, (staff go around the beach and round people up for crazy game?). I would recommend this hotel and the area, if you are looking for a relaxing holiday by the beach/pool.

A fabulous hotel & village. The service of the staff is extremely high, nothing is too much trouble.
On arrival immediately greeted by reception staff & porter who offered refreshments. Our bungalow room was across the road in the village so we were transported over by buggy within a few minutes of checking in.
Splash out & book a bungalow with shared pool. We did & it was the best decision to make, makes your holiday that little bit extra special. The pool was cleaned twice during our 1 week stay. The maids come in every day & change the towles if you require it, bed linen twice if I remember. Ours were Maria & Elena & they were lovely & we did chat in english & greek every day.
Pay no attention to previous comments about poor/lack of choice food. We stayed half board & both breakfast & evening meals were fantastic, such choice, always hot & plenty of it.Prepare to diet once home!
The scenery around the hotel is simply breathtaking. Take a little time out to explore their grounds and find the little church.
We walked into Ag Nik 3 times during our stay. There is a bus but its only a 20 min stroll. The area is busy but relaxed as is most of Greece. Well worth visiting for lunch though.
My only complaint would be the spa. Having just run this years London marathon I wanted a little pampering but I felt is was too expensive!!
Will return to our beloved Crete & have no hesitation in staying at the Mirabello again :)

Room Tip: Dont hesitate, spend the extra & have a bungalow with a shared pool!
