“Beautiful hotel, let down by huge wedding parties and all inclusive louts.......”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

We stayed in the Mirabello in 2012 and enjoyed our holiday so much that we decided to return this May, along with our 8 month old baby daughter. We were a little concerned after booking that the Iberostar chain had sold the hotel to a new company that we hadn't heard of, but were delighted with the improvement in the quality of the food on offer in the buffet restaurant. As a vegetarian, there were plenty of options to choose from.

Not much else had changed other than the grounds didn't appear to be as well maintained. Otherwise it was the same lovely hotel, beautiful views and well presented and maintained. The entertainment team had changed for the better, spending less time harassing you at the pool to join in activities. They were also nice to talk to and very friendly. However, it was clear that the new owners are in something of a transitional period which is to be expected. One of the great things about this hotel is that the vast majority of staff are extremely friendly and helpful, although we had a couple of staff problems which I will touch on later.

Our main problems with our visit this year were a noticeable change in the clientele. Last time out, the guests were mainly couples and families with children. Our first few days were great, the lovely pool and private beach areas were peaceful and relatively quiet.................

This was until one wedding party after another arrived. Now, I've got no problem with people enjoying themselves, I like a beer and a night out myself. However, this became the theme for the remainder of our holiday at The Mirabello and we were not alone in feeling disappointed at the behaviour of our fellow guests. The pool area quickly became a party zone for all inclusive louts, who had little respect for other guests. They spent pretty much the entire day getting as pi££ed as possible on the never ending supply of free booze at the pool bar. When attempting to find a quiet area, by lunchtime you were lucky if you weren't surrounded by groups of up to 30-40 lads and lasses who literally had no respect for anybody else. One group even decided to bring along their own music and play it right next to us. As a result, we decided to spent the remainder of our holiday at the beach or Spa pool which tended to be a little quieter.

Our problems didn't end there. After being at the hotel for about a week, we soon found that the entire top floor had been overtaken by another wedding party, who were intent on causing as much noise as possible. We were woken three nights running by these muppets, who spent from 12-5am running up and down corridors, shouting, swearing and banging on doors. After reporting this to reception and security, which did little to stop the problems, I decided to go to reception to demand something was done about this. In fairness to the night staff, they appeared tired of the constant complaints from other guests. They were very understanding and apologetic. In the morning my wife went to reception to see what could be done. We were spoken to in a less than understanding manner and told in no uncertain terms that we should expect this from a wedding party as they are here to enjoy themselves. My wife was upset about the way in which she was spoken to and shocked that we were expected to put up and shut up.

The following day after yet another sleepless night in which we managed about 3 hours sleep, we decided to return to reception. On this occasion, the member of reception staff apologised profusely and offered to move us to the village apartments.

In summary, this hotel is lovely, great views, good service and friendly staff. It's just a shame that some guests don't have enough respect to allow others to enjoy their holidays in peace...We won't be returning again.........

Room Tip: Get a sea view, the views are second to none. The village is worth the extra money as the rooms are...

We spent seven enjoyable days in this hotel,
when it was still under Iberostar's management.
We were a family of 5 adults, two small children (two and one years old).
All the family enjoyed very much the stay .
The place is very calm and well maintained with a convinient acsess to the beach.
The food was not outstanding but it was good.
The service was excellent.
I certainly plan to go back in the future.

I have just come back from a week at the Mirabello hotel and had the most amazing time. The hotel is really nice and has plenty too offer. There are different areas around the hotel such as the pools, bars and beach etc which are all enjoyable. Personally, we enjoyed the food and found there was something for everyone, despite being fussy eaters.
Outside the hotel there is a shop as there is inside the hotel too. Apart from this, you do have to travel to get to bars/restaurants etc. However it isn't far in a taxi and is also cheap enough. You can easily walk to and from Agios Nikolas as it isn't too far. We found that all inclusive was definitely worth it as we upgraded from half board. The only slight downfall was the entertainment which we personally didn't find any good. However we really enjoyed our time at the hotel and would recommend it.

Having just returned from a two week holiday at the MIRABELLO we found the hotel to be of a very high standard, food choice and quality excellent, with themed nights twice a week. The rooms all large and comfortable (most with good views)
We decided to upgrade to all inclusive for one of the weeks and found it well worth the extra money.
The beach as got lots of free sunbeds, and is very safe for young children to play.
The hotel is situated about thirty minutes walk from Agios Nikolaos where there are plenty of good tavernas, also STAVEROS,about ten minutes walk from the MIRABELLO (first on left) is good for a meal and drinks--Maria will give you a warm welcome and keep you topped up with Raki.

Just back from 2 weeks at the Mirabello Beach and had a fantastic time! The beach, pools and resort is lovely as is the food! Lots of variety every night so something for everyone... And the desserts are to die for! Drinks a little on the dear side so good idea to go all inclusive! Only thing that let's Mirabello down is the night time entertainment... The entertainment staff try their best but no professional shows which is unusual for a 5 star hotel! The hotel is about a 30 minute walk into ag Nic with a few bars and tavernas on the way! Loved it and would definitely return!

We booked this two week break on the recommendation of a friend who stays at this resort regularly. It certainly lived up to expectations. The location is beautiful. We had a seaview room on the 4th floor and we would recommend getting a seaview as it is well worth the extra. Quite often with all inclusive the food can be a little monotonous but certainly not at this hotel. The food was amazing. The variety and freshness of everything was second to none. The hotel itself is lovely always kept very clean in all areas. The staff were always very helpful and friendly. The small problem with our room key was quickly and efficiently dealt with. The pool and beach areas are lovely and very clean. The loungers and umbrellas were replaced this year. My only complaint would be that the pool water was very cold. We actually ended up swimming in the sea which I don't usually do but the water was warmer and very safe as it is quite shallow. There has been much written in past reviews about the evening entertainment. We enjoyed all the shows we watched. There were three occasions when professionals were brought in and the couple of shows we saw with the animation team performing were great fun. We have to remember that these are amateurs who have other duties during the day but put their all into the performances. Great team who work hard. I visited the Spa on two occasions during our stay. The Spa is lovely, very clean and the girls are very efficient. On both occasions I had Vassos (not sure if that is spelt correctly) amazing masseuse and delightful young lady. I can highly recommend a visit. All in all an amazing holiday, wonderful hotel and have no hesitation is recommending this for a visit to this part of Crete. I would like to make special mention of the maître d' Mr Manolis and all his team who run a very efficient dining room and also Marina and Giorgis at the Pool Bar who looked after us very well also Giulia and her aqua aerobic sessions on the beach which were great fun.

Room Tip: A sea-view room is a must.
