In brief, this is the best hotel I've ever visited. From the moment we arrived at this caringly renovated Venetian Palazzo, with my husband just recovering from a severe cold, until we left a week later, we were delighted with the very kind, personal service we received and our beautiful physical surroundings.

After we were greeted warmly by the concierge and shown to our stunning room, the charming owner, offered us hot Cretan tea and other restorative snacks in her excellent harbor-side restaurant downstairs from the hotel. Later that same evening, the concierge helped us re-plan the next seven days with briefer hikes and somewhat easier trips than we'd originally planned. And what marvellous activities she found us--including a private tour of the old city (not the obvious sites, but the hidden gems) a jeep trip high into the mountains to a shepherd's hut and an eco-village. She also recommended outstanding restaurants.

Our delightfully quiet room, which looked out on the historic Venetian harbor, was appointed with just about everything a guest could want--incredibly comfortable beds and pillows, one of the best showers I ever stepped into, extra-thick towels and high-end olive oil toiletries, a good hair-drier and safe and much more. And every day. we found special treats awaiting us when we walked in--a bottle of wine, fresh fruit or a carafe of ouzo for example.

The personally prepared breakfasts, served by an attentive waitress in a charming courtyard or small indoors, included fresh bread and croissants, a full range of egg dishes, savory Greek pies, organic Greek yogurt with fruits and honey--just about anything a guest could want and whatever kind of coffee we preferred. And every evening, we found unexpected treats in our room--such as fruit, wine or ouzo.

Room Tip: A room with a harbor view is delightful.

We just returned from 5 weeks away, having spent almost 10 days of it in Crete. I can honestly say that the Domus Reiner was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed in a deluxe suite overlooking the harbor area. I originally thought the room was architecturally awkward in that the bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom was downstairs by way of a curvy staircase. I need not have worried since it presented no problem at all. I was also concerned about storage space but it worked itself out. In fact, these turned out to be minor issues compared to everything the hotel had to offer. Breakfasts were amazing with plentiful choices. (The croissants were perfect). The shower was easy to operate. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the down comforter, linens and towels are top of the line. However, as other reviewers have noted, what distinguishes this hotel from any other is the quality of the staff. Noni, Elena and Evangelia behind the desk were always smiling, available and extraordinarily helpful. They are also kind, beautiful and smart. The chef Nectaria is incredible. Our server and new friend, Giota, was professional and lovely (inside and out) and so wonderful to talk to every morning. And even the cleaning person, (OMG I forgot her name, she's from Bulgaria and so sweet) went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. We will probably return to Crete, and to Chania, simply because we had such a great time, thanks to the staff of the Domus Renier. ευχαριστώ!

Room Tip: We liked the rooms overlooking the harbor.

We traveled to Chania from Toronto, ON. After visiting Santorini, we wondered what could be more beautiful and service-oriented - then, we found the Domus Renier. Hands down, the best hotel we have experienced. We stayed in the Maryssa suite (honeymoon suite). It was beautiful with gorgeous views of the harbour. The staff are incredibly in-touch with guests, responsive and excited to share Chania's best kept secrets. There was so much consideration for guests - from the complimentary bottle of wine as a welcome to the hand-written messages left in our room at turn-down service, we were smiling for 6 days straight. This boutique hotel is world-class and should be granted award upon award. The owner is doing everything right.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the harbour have the best views

I'll start by saying that it is very hard to describe how GREAT this place really is! We have not stopped talking about our visit to Chania and Domus Renier is largely responsible for that.
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The hotel is beautifully designed, very clean and the staff are amazing. Our stay started after a late flight and arrival to the hotel where we were greeted personally by the manager, who gave us a personal tour of our room and even arranged for the sister restaurant (Zepos) to keep the kitchen open so we could have a late bite to eat (at midnight).
The breakfasts are delicious serving up anything you want and the staff are very attentive working hard to arrange any special requests you may have. A highlight of our stay was the cooking lesson they arranged with the chef at Zepos (Vasilis).
Many thanks to all the staff at Domus Renier and Zepos for making this a trip we'll remember for long time! A special thanks to Litsa, Evangelia, Helena, Kostas and Vasilis! We hope to come back soon!

Room Tip: Suite Luigi (honeymoon suite) is beautiful and has a great view of the harbor.
