Description: Wellcome to Strata Restaurant - Tavern At a small picturesque and verdurous alley, located in the Old city of Chania, you will find the Tavern Strata. It is a family tavern with Greek and Cretan specialities which are made by local, pure-fresh products. All of our dishes are prepared for our friends and costumers with longing and caring, based on the grandmas' recipies. Stuffed Vine Leaves, lamb Kleftiko and our special Beef with goat cheese. You can also find within our menu a variety of Cretan meze like kalitsounia, staka, snails, boureki and many others. A visit to our place and we assure you that you will become frequenters.

Excellent food, fantastic service...everything you order is very fresh and tasty!! Better to make reservation before you go, or you'll wait a little because of too many visitors!

Our family of two adults and a two year old went here because of the reviews and we did not get disappointed. The service was very nice, friendly and well organized, the waiter suggested us to have a meze platter and when we were thinking of should we order some salad or so, he said that the platter is so big that we do not need to. He could have easily ripped us a little more money but instead he gave a good suggestion - and we were definitely stuffed after trying to eat the platter. :) It contained a nice sampling of greek meze and we really emjoyed it. We ate outside and it was nice, we didnot mind people walking right past us - as it is an alley, they pass quite close by, but it was just fun to watch the differen people. The price was decent and it was nice to get ouzo to start with and raki & chocolate cake to finish off as a kitchens greeting. Would recommend!

Thank Raksu

We wandered here when trying to escape from the waterfront eateries in Chania port. The food is great and the portions are good. Order several things and try it family style. The local specialties were great. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was unrushed.

We decided to stop here for lunch because the outside tables were clean and cute with their red, white and blue plaid table cloths and red salt and pepper shakers - the ambiance was an instant draw. It was a great retreat from the hot August sun too. We hadn't read the reviews and were not expecting the outstanding meal we had. Wow! Service was attentive and friendly. We were greeted with a pitcher ofwater when we sat down. Beer was ice cold, and the olives and garlic butter with fresh bread were delicious to enjoy while we waited for our meal. My 5€ Greek salad was HUGE and my husband's gyros plate was too. He said the pita bread was the best he'd ever had. Our meal ended with complimentary chocolate cake (yummy) and the traditional raki. We will return to this restaurant for an evening meal! We were VERY impressed - what a relaxing and outstanding meal this was.

we stumbled on to Strata on accident when the restaurant we were trying to go to (portes next door) was fully booked. strata sat us at one of their empty tables and we returned another two times during our hania stay! LOVED the hania salad, the baked feta, and octopus in wine sauce. portions are large--we would NOT recommend getting their combo platter unless you have at least 4 people (we ate about half and were stuffed). we also loved the service (the waiters were charming and very attentive), the romantic location in the ivy filled alley, and the freebies (ouzo and dessert).
