“as charming as the name”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2012

We had a fabulous two nights at Mama Nena and as the name on the right of the door says, it is a charming Hotel. We stayed in the downstairs room which was spotless and elegantly furnished. Also we had a balcony, great for admiring the harbour and people watching. We had great recommendations for local restaurants (Tamam and Portes) which were so good that we had lunch and dinner in both places. The breakfast was superb. The attention to detail was outstanding. It is by far the nicest small hotel that I have stayed and would warmly recommend it.

Had a fantastic 1 night stay in the Marina Room (with balcony overlooking the harbour). The room looked exactly like the photos, if anything, slightly larger. The view was breathtaking, the room was tastefully decorated, a comfy bed with a clean bathroom. Robes, slippers. shampoo, etc were all supplied. The hosts were very flexible, allowing us to drop stuff off early and the breakfast was tasty. I couldn't speak more highly of the place, would definitely reccomend to friends and even return myself. For a room with a balcony over the harbour I don't think you can do better.

It was a great experience to spend some days in this magnificent hotel. From the hospitality of the owners, to the tasty decoration of the apartments, passing from the gently prepared breakfast and the magnificent sea view from the living room, everything was just perfect in this place that easily could be called home. Extremely clean and well located hotel, it’s a place to be enjoyed. I highly recommend it.

Genuine hospitality. Homely. Location in the centre of things and excellent. Easy to find. Spot on restaurant recommendations. Exceptionally clean and well appointed rooms. Interior design first rate and attention to detail outstanding.
Despite being right in the centre of the harbour which is a busy night-time attraction (bars, restaurants etc) the hotel is quiet because of the double glazing and shutters. The first floor room has an excellent balcony vantage point for people and view watching, sun set viewing etc , but be aware you may be woken in the morning by comings and goings.

Room Tip: All three of the rooms have their advantages. The first floor room has a balcony overlooking the har...

Truly, one of the best B&B style places we have ever stayed in. Superb location and ultra charming and stylish rooms. The owners have an incredible eye for detail. Everything has been tastefully selected... Down to the smallest details! I love the story behind the original owners falling in love in the harbour... And the breakfasts are worth getting up early on holidays for! How does yoghurt and honey taste SO good! Great bathrooms - so clean and homely! Thanks for the wonderful hospitality - we will definitely be back!

Oh my goodness. what an amazing place. The room we stayed in was fantastic. the living room overlooking the Venetian port was just the best. The quality of the furnishing, the cleanliness, the design the whole atmosphere was brilliant. The location of the hotel was spot on. Just by the port and old town within easy access to an array of shops and close to main bus station. the whole atmosphere of the area really made an impression. The hosts were fantastic and Diana was just a gem. lovely breakfast with a good combination of items. I would definitely recommend this boutique hotel to anyone coming to stay in Chania.

We are but another enthusiastic voice to all the excellent reviews.

A few other thoughts are: we stayed for 5 nights in the Stella room on the 3rd flr....fantastic room with views to the harbour and a large deck looking out to the mountains. You are in the old town and this means there are a lot of tourists and it will be noisy into the evening. The room is well insulated but if you wish to sleep with the windows open then be prepared to accept some noise. It is a beautifully restored building but with the high ceilings there are a lot of steps to the third floor so anyone with mobility issues should think twice.

Occasionally problems can occur in any well run business and we had one which in part was of our own making - Matina however took full accountability (unnecessarily so) and was clearly very concerned. She organised a very acceptable solution and the way she handled the matter only served to underscore her professionalism and deep commitment to the reputation of Mama Nena - a problem became......gee, isn't Matina a terrific person.
