This is Greece, so I kind of got used to waiting a lot in restaurants. Not here - I got a menu instantly, made my order, and the meal was ready within minutes. Service is excellent, food quality is above average.

Well, for a fascinating setting, you can't do better than this Taverna! Top it off with great food from a broad menu, reasonable prices, good wine and even live entertainment from time to time. A great experience here.... I'll be back often.

We chose to eat at Ela Taverna one evening because it was quite windy. It was good decision to sit in the lower sitting area "inside" (no roof but protected from the elements) as we were nice and cozy protected from the elements. The menu was extensive and we chose a selection of salads and veg to start with and then shared 2 different main courses one of rabbit and another of goat. Both dishes were good and we enjoyed our time there. Friendly waiters and not too expensive.

The setting - an old soap factory - remains wonderfully charming. The huge roofless building is designed inside to provide many individual nooks and crannies in which to enjoy your food.
At our most recent visit we had an Ela's salad (first rate) and their goat in the oven. A cullinary joy.
Outside you can eat or just enjoy a drink watching the world sidle past. We use this as a rendezvous when meeting friends after shopping in Chania. Over the years this lovely restaurant has never let us down.

While this restaurant is not located along the famous waterfront, it does have a unique setting, located within the walls of a burnt out building. We enjoyed the good and friendly service, reasonable prices (check out the 18 Euro Specials for 2) and slightly off the beaten track location.
Easy to find and very conveniently located within the walls of the old town.
Once we found this eatery we found ourselves returning again and again. For more details see their web-page at: http://www.ela-chania.gr/
