“Elegant, Comfortable, and helpful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2009

We stayed in this hotel for two nights during a trip through Greece, and were very impressed. The bed was very comfortable, and the rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was pretty small, but clean also. The staff were very helpful and worked with us on coordinating travel to Heraklion to catch our boat to the islands even though it was very early in the morning, and even got us breakfast before we left. Highly recommend anyone stay here going to Chania.

We booked our room via the Internet after using Google and Trip Advisor to complete our research. We noticed all positive reviews, so we felt confident that Casa Delfino would be a great start to our honeymoon. They were very responsive via email, coordinating our reservation and arranging taxi service for us from the Chania airport.

The hotel is located about 1 block off of the downtown Chania harbor. It was late May 2009 and thus, the true holiday season in Chania had not fully kicked into high gear. The concierge met our taxi at the street to welcome us and take our bags to the hotel. There is no elevator at this old transformed Venetian mansion. We were on the 3rd (top) floor in a two-level suite. If you have trouble climbing the stairs (very wide beautiful marble stairs but several flights), request a lower level room. The rooms face into the gorgeous courtyard which is shaded by a large tree. We stayed in Room #10 which included a pretty sitting area, flatscreen TV, writing desk, armoir, marble bathroom with standing shower/sink/toilet, and circular staircase leading to the bed overlooking the sitting area. Roses were placed in our room as they knew it was the start of our honeymoon. Also, there is air conditioning in the room.

Breakfast is served daily in the courtyard from 7:30am -11:00am. It is a self-serve breakfast with plenty to choose from: eggs, coffee, tea, breads, yogurts, nuts, cereals, crackers, puddings, jams, fruit, juices, cheeses, meats, and speads.

The concierge staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the island, vendors, restaurants and driving paths. They were easily able to arrange a rental car for us, provide us with maps, restaurant recommendations and more. Don't forget to walk all the way to the top level of the hotel to check out the rooftop area which includes a sitting area, sun loungers and a great view of the harbor (but not a great view of the sunset).

In our research we were concerned that a hotel too close to the harbor would be noisy. Casa Delfino was NOT noisy at all. It was very peaceful, romantic and private.

We had a wonderfully spacious suite with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Very comfortable. The breakfast area was nice but the breakfast itself was disappointing - mostly cereal and bread, though you could boil your own egg if desired. Staff has inconsistent. We caught on early that they were not always reliable and we learned that when we requested something (like a taxi or to take a tour) that we always had to follow up because they didn't always follow through. They also tried to tell us that we did not pay for a tour when we had paid cash (guess we learned to always ask for a receipt). They were also not very good at recommending things to do.

The hotel is an elegant, beautifully restored old mansion, ideally located in the heart of Chania's old town. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and very attractive. Two minor negatives: the marble courtyard lacks enough tables to accomodate all the guests for breakfast - if you arrive at the wrong time you might have a long wait for a table. Also - we stayed with another couple in the 2-bedroom suite which we thought (our error) would have 2 full bathrooms. The suite indeed has 2 bathrooms, but only one has a toilet! Luckily the other couple were very old friends of ours!

4 nights of absolute bliss.......free upgrade to 'Honeymoon' suite upon arrival, everything of an excellent quality, helpful staff.
One of the best 'pleasure / vacation' locations I can think of.
Location in Old Town is superb, very close to water front, lovely rooftop 'get away' for some sun & peace.
Can't rate highly enough.

We spent 8 days at Casa Delfino. It was glorious! The staff was incredibly helpful, helping with travel details via email even before we arrived. The hotel is stunning - it exudes beauty, peace, and comfort. Breakfast was delightful - tasteful, healthy, beautifully prepared and constantly replenished. Each staff member took pride in the appearance and quality of the hotel, and all contributed to it's seamless ambience. On the morning we left (at 5 am), the staff had a fresh pot of coffee, and breakfast laid out for us.

We stayed at Casa Delfino for a week recently. Here is a summary of our stay and I will be as objective as possible.

Good points:

The location is fantastic, in the old town, a block back from the harbour, and believe me, this is a good thing (the harbour is 30 secs walk away). The service/staff was always good and helpful and in particular, Georgina (at breakfast), and Jennifer. Rooms are spotless and there is a beautiful courtyard where breakfast is served.

Now for the negative points:

No real complaints, just a couple of points to note.

Our bathroom was on the small side and the shower was quite dark. Not a huge problem. The other issue is the air conditioning unit. Basically it was situated under the steps (!) to the upper level. This meant that the cool air does not reach the upper level(where the beds are). Again, not a problem in Sept/Oct when weather is cooler and the windows can be left open, but I think may be a problem in summer.

General comments:

Generally, the hotel really is gorgeous, especially the courtyard. We had room 4 which has a balcony directly overlooking the courtyard and also another one overlooking a street outside. It's obviously not cheap (relatively speaking), but if I were to visit Chania again, I would definitely stay here.

Incidently, I thought that Tamam (a restaurant) which seems to get quite a bit of hype, is definitely over-rated. Portes nearby is much better in my opinion.
