“Relaxing and friendly”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

This hotel is one block off of the touristy harbor and a world away. We arrived late after having trouble with our rental car running out of gas, but the staff was welcoming and calm. It was our honeymoon and they had wine, a huge bowl of fruit and a bouquet of flowers waiting in our room. We had to park farther away than we thought and they offered to move our car.
The next day, the breakfast in the courtyard was delicious and fresh. I am still thinking about their Greek version of brushetta on the whole wheat bread.
Later that afternoon, we finally enjoyed the wine in the courtyard and Yannis (hopefully) and other staff were very friendly offering advice about things to do on Crete. We were going to Samaria Gorge to hike down and back (when most just hike down) and they offered their advice and concern. They wanted to be sure we made it back from the Gorge before it got dark.
The rooms are unique with large beds. The bathrooms are typical of those in Greece, but by the end of our trip we were used to the shower stalls with the hose.
Yannis also recommeded Portis to us- a restaurant just a short walk away- which we frequented twice. They were the best and most inexpensive meals of our honeymoon.
I would definitely visit Crete again and stay at Casa Delfino.

Casa Delfino was not the hotel I thought I would be staying at when I went to Chania. Since Orbitz confirmed my reservation at a hotel they don't even do business with, I had to scramble and Casa Delfino had an open room. Wow, was I lucky.

When I got there they said they had three rooms, for €110, €130 & €275 (I think). I looked at the two cheap rooms and they didn't look cheap. They were great! I took the one with the loft (mezzanine) for €130 and my wife and I loved it. No view from the room, and the AC only gave us some slight coolness since the unit was on the main level under the winding staircase (worst location possible in the room). Hindsight I would have taken the non-loft. Oh well. We had a lot of room and a couch in the room we took and we enjoyed relaxing after a long two-week Euro-odyssey.

The staff were great...you can't do better. Carried our bags for us, gave us great advice, were just friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very good and there were snacks to take with us on our hike of Samaria Gorge. The hotel even helped us set this up.

As for location, this is one street in from the harbor. There is only walking streets nearby and the room doesnt even back up to them. No noise or anything at this place. We loved it!

We just returned from our honeymoon. We visited Athens, Crete (Chania), and Santorini. We really enjoyed our time in Chania at the Casa Delfino. What made this place so great are the people that work there and the location. Stella, Bridget, George and Yianni were very helpful and friendly. Anything we requested assistance with they offered suggestions and really made our trip more enjoyable.

We rented a car which was kind of chaotic. It was good because we did go to a beach on the west coast for a day. It took sometime for us to navigate through the streets of Chania and find our hotel. We had a map and had a general idea of the location but the streets are difficult to find in our opinion. When we finally found the parking area we walked through a beautiful cobblestone street with outdoor cafes. Luckily we didn’t blink because down one of the side streets we saw a small sign, Casa Delfino. The Venetian mansion is charming, pretty, and unique. We loved that in the area of our hotel there were locals who lived on the same streets.

Our room was “ok”. We booked a one bedroom suite. It looked like none of the photos on the website. We had a decent size bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a bedroom area. There were 2 chairs in the corner which I guess made the room fall into the suite category. We were disappointed in our view because there was none. We had 2 windows facing what seemed to be an abandoned building. We were in room 20. There was no private veranda or balcony only a tiny shared one with our floor. We managed to make it up to the roof which had a nice view of the harbor and was quiet.

The location of this hotel was ideal. It is seconds from many tavernas, old town, and a local beach which we took time to enjoy. In retrospect, we enjoyed the convenience of the local beach in Chania. It was just as crowded as Falasarna Beach on the West coast. Falasarna was a much larger beach with sand and beautiful water. Overall, Chania was a great experience. The food in Chania was excellent! The service was always great. My best advice is to explore the small streets, check out menus, shop, and enjoy your time there. A note about the cafes by the water They are very touristy and all though there are signs all over that say “NO PRESSING” meaning they do not pressure you to eat there, there is plenty of pressure! We found ourselves dodging overly eager hostesses. I understand, business and tourism needs a boost but we found it to be more of an annoyance. You have to experience it to know what I mean.

Enjoy Chania! It is a nice experience. We would recommend Casa Defino.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Our room was very spacious and we had a small balcony overlooking the quiet narrow street outside. The facilities are a bit dated (furiture etc) fixtures in comparison to the other "top ranked" places we stayed in Greece (see my other reviews), but this is also supposed to be the most upscale hotel in the area so I can only wonder what shape the other properties in Chania are like. The property's location is ideal as you're right in the heart of Old Town. Parking could be a challenge if you happen to rent a car--you have to find parking in the designated parking area (near the old city wall) just down the narrow street. The staff is fantastic and always willing to help (George and Yiannis were very helpful to us). We would definitely stay here again.

They have free wireless (though reception can be spotty depending on how close/far you are from the ground floor) and there is also a brand new computer with internet that guests can use in the common area. Breakfast was great, buffet-style, huge selection and the eating area outside in the courtyard is picture-perfect.

This place is what American tourists sick of chain hotels (and even large "boutique," too-trend- for-their-own-good places) dream of! In true European style, there are no elevators. That is about the only drawback to this place. Great location in the old city of Chania, our loft style room had a lot of character due to its conversion from a prior life as a Venetian mansion. Spiral staircases, pebble mosaic courtyards, balconies overlooking the bay, and to top it off, a delicious buffet breakfast. Staff was very helpful--especially Jen, the marketing person--making up for lack of a true lobby as we are accustomed to in a Hilton or Marriott. I would stay here again and would recommend to all, even at the given price points. Hard to imagine being disappointed with this place.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Upon check-in they upgraded us to the Honeymoon Suite as we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. The room was gorgeous (pictures are attached). The courtyard was beautiful - a very pleasant place to have breakfast, a glass of wine or coffee. Breakfast was included and very good - it included an extensive selection of pastries, breads, yogurt and fruit, etc. The location was great - in very short walking distance to numerous restaurants, shops and the harbor. The best part may have been the staff - everyone was so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return!

We stayed 3 nights at Casa Delfino in room 19. This room was a suite and we found it to be so very nice and comfortable. The room we had was very spacious and light. We had a small balcony with french doors overlooking an alleyway, a window in our jacuzzi tub bathroom, and two windows in the bedroom. Our bathroom was large and the room was clean and the bed comfortable and I have absolutely no complaints about our stay at Casa Delfino whatsoever. I think it was great value for the price. The staff was extremely attentive to whatever we needed and arranged car services, directions, dinner reservations, a hiking tour, confirmed our ferry from Heraklion - they made everything so easy and comfortable for us. We did not want their recommended hiking tour and chose another instead, and this was NO problem and they set it all up for us. The location of the hotel is very nice - one street back from the busy harbor and shops, and the hotel itself is very lovely and charming with marble floors and the old brick showing on the walls, and the pretty courtyard. I hated to leave and I would return here and recommend this place wholeheartedly. I do think there must be discrepancies in the rooms because I overheard a family at breakfast and also heard from another guest while we were there that their bathroom was not great and their room 'cozy' (translation 'tiny') - but our accomodations were spacious and very comfortable.
