Hotel Palazzo is perfectly located in old Chania town. My wife and I spent two pleasant nights there in May, just as the high season was starting. I agree with several of the reviewers below that the amenities were slightly disappointing; hard mattress and tiny pillows; old rooms with antiquated air conditioning; very weak internet access found only in the lobby; a bathroom that one has to step up into and that is in need of some updating; and a minimal breakfast. Nevertheless, based on the available options, it appears that one has to pay a king's ransom in old Chania town to do better than this. Balancing these unfortunate debits (which we generally found throughout Greece, I might point out), are the excellent and incredibly friendly service from the charming Anastasia, the perfect location, and the view from the balcony off our room. Based on these latter factors, the price, and the fact that Palazzo is par for the course for hotels of this class in Greece, I give it a "very good" rating. I would only add that Chania is definitely worth visiting!

Room Tip: Make sure you are not staying on the ground floor.

First off, Anastasia is lovely and amazing. I want to like this hotel a lot more than I do for her alone. She was super helpful and really pleasant. Also, our room had the most stunning view from the balcony -- mountains on one side, sea on the other. Absolutely beautiful.
The drawbacks: yes, yes, yes...it's difficult to find a soft bed in Greece, but these were pretty rock hard and the pillows were flat and hard. The comforter covers are furry and synthetic, also unpleasant. As far as I can tell, you have to spend over $150 in Chania Town to find a place with good bedding. The room, as others have said, was clean, but it smelled strongly of cleaning fluid. The place could stand updating (but then, I fear, it would not retain the cheaper prices!) Also, (although perhaps this is just an off-season phenomenon) the breakfast was very basic, which was a bit disappointing as previous reviews had suggested in was quite good.

I would love to see this place update some things and really come into its potential because it has some wonderful things (and people!) going for it, but as it is, in spite of the FABULOUS neighborhood it's in, I wouldn't want to stay more than one night.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a balcony, if possible....it's, by far, the most redeeming factor of...

I shared a room with my brother and his wife, the room was huge very comfortable and adequately furnished. Only complaint was the shower it was a bit small. Anatasia was a lovely person as was her mother they were helpful and friendly at all times. Breakfast was superb. The location was fantastic only minutes from some beautiful little laneways, restaurants and shops. Crete harbour was literally just around the corner.
Congratulations to you all at the Palazzo and hope you get another Excellence award for the hotel this year, you deserve it well done. Hope one day to return will definately book with you again.

Four of us chose this hotel on the basis of its superb location in the old town and being a period converted house. The staff, starting with the wonderful Anastasia, were friendly and helpful, sorting out taxis, laundry, restaurant recommendations etc. The rooms are of a reasonable size, charming and with comfortable beds. The outside street can get a bit noisy but no problem if you shut the windows and turn on the effective aircon. The showers worked well and the only criticism of the bathroom was that it was slightly airless. If we had to make one recommendation for improvement, it would be to serve fresh orange juice at breakfast.

Palazzo met our expectations. The rooms are small, but very clean. The shower I barely fit in. Those are the only minuses but this is a value hotel with a great location, sorta of like being in the Plaka in Athens with everything within a 10 minute walk. The hotel is an old renovated home or mansion in those days along a beautiful narrow street. There is no piano bar as one reviewer claimed as being noisy. Anatasia and the other hosts were wonderful and spoke very good English. Breakfast was healthy and filling. My guess is there are about 15 rooms total so this will not have noisy corridors that a larger facility would have. Very charming.

We stayed here after looking on the website. We were given ground floor rooms that were very grim. No one told us that the windows had to be locked to operate the air conditioning with the result that we spent our first night tossing and turning in the August heat with noise from a piano bar going until 3am. No one on the the desk in the evening, so no one to help. Breakfast very nasty. Instead of fresh juice there was a powdered acidic drink and a hard roll. The girl on the desk was very unhelpful, though the older lady (owner?) was very nice. Unfortunately we only saw her our last morning. The rooms were nothing like those shown on the website with noisy, dilapidated refrigerators plonked in the middle of the room displacing the other furniture. My mother's room was tiny and very noisy. Ground floor rooms to be avoided at all costs! Compared to the other hotels we have stayed in in Greece, at similar prices, this was very unappealing. The exterior of the hotel is lovely and the location is perfect. It's just too bad the rooms and breakfast were such a let down!

Room Tip: Make sure you get an upstairs room!
