“Quaint 'homemade' museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

We enjoyed our visit to this nice little museum, but it does have a rather 'homemade' feel in places. The original Cretan items are interesting enough, and there are plenty of them to see. The overall effect is somewhat let down by the homemade figures portraying locals in the scenes, and the backgrounds are rather unconvincing. Having said that it all has a great deal of charm, and has clearly been lovingly put together by some rather nice local women, who are seen working inside the museum making local craft items. Don't be put off, it is worth a visit!

“Basically a gift shop”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

There were some nice examples of cretan embroidery with no explanation. Mostly, however, the space was full of handicrafts for sale. Some of the items were nice but that wasn't what I was looking for.

“Worth finding...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

A small eclectic collection showing living conditions and artefacts from years gone by.

The museum seems to be the private collection of two ladies, who are on hand to answer questions.

There is no widespread advertising but it is located off the entrance to the Catholic Church, opposite the Cathedral, on the main street through the old town going down to the harbour.

€2 per person well spent!

“Well worth seeking out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

We didn't actually go looking for this, but stumbled across it while looking into the courtyard of the Catholic Church.

It's an interesting exhibition of various things from Crete's past, worth sending 30 or 40 minutes at.

“Amazing museum replicas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

This is the place to get your museum replicas of your favorite ceramic goddesses and bird headed figures. There are also excellent embroideries and scale models of old British ships.
