Good welcome and great attention all during the two day stay at this hotel. Nice relaxed breakfast. Had a junior suite at the top of the building and there was plenty of space. We were a bit disappointed with the view – only low level windows. Nevertheless great to stay in such an historic building.
As already mentioned in other reviews not somewhere to stay if you had mobility problems – however perhaps you should consider not staying anywhere in Chania’s old town if you had such difficulties as there are steps and irregular surfaces everywhere.
Unlike other reviews I would say that there is no car parking difficulties. This is the third stay that we have had in Chania and there have always been plenty of spaces down at the sea front. Coming from the East along Skalidi turn right down Pireos as far as you can go and at the waterside on the right you can park for free on the road or else there is a car park further along. Walk away from the sea into the pedestrian only area of the old town and after about 100 yards any of the restaurant staff can direct you to this hotel which although not far away is hidden in winding streets.
I would stay here again and would recommend the hotel. Chania is a great place to stay for exploring surrounding areas and for its fine dining.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more less
