Good welcome and great attention all during the two day stay at this hotel. Nice relaxed breakfast. Had a junior suite at the top of the building and there was plenty of space. We were a bit disappointed with the view – only low level windows. Nevertheless great to stay in such an historic building.
As already mentioned in other reviews not somewhere to stay if you had mobility problems – however perhaps you should consider not staying anywhere in Chania’s old town if you had such difficulties as there are steps and irregular surfaces everywhere.
Unlike other reviews I would say that there is no car parking difficulties. This is the third stay that we have had in Chania and there have always been plenty of spaces down at the sea front. Coming from the East along Skalidi turn right down Pireos as far as you can go and at the waterside on the right you can park for free on the road or else there is a car park further along. Walk away from the sea into the pedestrian only area of the old town and after about 100 yards any of the restaurant staff can direct you to this hotel which although not far away is hidden in winding streets.
I would stay here again and would recommend the hotel. Chania is a great place to stay for exploring surrounding areas and for its fine dining.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel is in the old town and within walking distance of the best of Chania. We did not have a car, so parking was not a problem. We were on the top floor with a beautiful view. Worth the walk up.
The staff was very nice. A great place for the weary traveler, it was nice and quiet at night.

Could not find fault with the hotel. The kindness shown to us by all three ladies was lovely.Special thanks to Rulia for your kindness and the boiled eggs at breakfast and going the extra mile.We stayed in room 1 a lovely big room (plus less stairs to climb for 14 day stay ) Would recommend this hotel and use it again.

We stayed 6 nights. I chose the hotel based on the reviews from this site. The location is one of the best although there are quite a lot of hotels in the same area. The building is impressive and a joy to history lovers. The staff is exceptional, warm and welcoming and are very helpful in suggesting sights and interesting places to visit. We were offered the choice between 2 rooms, both on the 3rd floor, so plenty of stairs to carry our suitcase. The room we chose was actually a loft with the bathroom and a small sitting area at the bottom and stairs to an upper area bed. There was a small window with a bit of a view. The other room, although on one level (so less stairs) had a tiny window with no view. Lovely breakfast is served at the lower floor with freshly squeezed orange juice, Greek coffee and great Greek yogurt. The only thing I did not like was the dark furnishing and the poor lighting - a contrast to the light atmosphere of the lovely and beautiful city of Xania. All in all great value for money and great location and recommended warmly especially because of the warm and welcoming staff.

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms = less stairs. South facing rooms have bigger windows

This hotel is simple, unfussy and charming. The staff are a delight, the rooms are comfortable with some quirky charm and the location is a dream! We have been very happy to use his as our base for the week and would recommend to anyone. Just one word of warning, if you don't like lots of stairs to your room make sure you get a room on the first or second floor. This was not an issue for us but for older or less mobile individuals its worth asking ahead of time.

Room Tip: If you are not so mobile make sure you ask for a room on he first two floors.

Nice traditional boutique hotel in the heart of the the old town, close to the center too.Quiet place, fully equipped rooms with wood art furniture. The breakfast is served in a unique room , specially decorated. Also, the breakfast buffet had full variety ,included local products. Sweet ladies in the Reception helped us all the time, even when we needed to transfer our luggage in my room. I love to stay in this beautiful hotel again. I would recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor have a nice view to the old harbor

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The location was great, off a tiny street- so a bit of a challenge to find once the cab dropped us off...no cars allowed in the historical center. Based on other reviews, I was not surprised by this fact. We were on the top floor, so more steps... the room was tiny, but very clean. The staff was very helpful and gave suggestions for our day trips. We rented a car through www.cretetravel.com and they delivered it to the hotel on day 2 for us. Parking near the hotel was quite challenging, but so worth it to explore the island! I loved being near the harbor to walk around at night.

We would stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more   less
