Porto del Colombo Hotel

We Stayed at Porto del Colombo Hotel at end Sept for 4 nights. I had booked early in April and asked for a room on lower floors but was told they were all booked, but if one came available they would inform us. We ended up with a room on the third floor, the hotel has no lift so you have to hump your luggage up yourself. My husband is 70 and I am 65, fortunately fit! If you are unfit, make sure you get the one and only room on the first floor! The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms certainly adequate, but not a great deal of comfort in them. Great views from the third floor though! (compensation for the hike up the stairs!) Chania is a charming harbour town, everyone very friendly, and we felt very safe around the place. We then went for a 'chill out' few days along the coast at the Panorama Hotel, which cost us the same 80euros which Colombo cost, but for this we got Bed breakfast and evening meal, to say nothing of the fantastic pool area and wonderful pool diner! Just a 7 euro taxi ride from Chania. Enjoyed Del Colombo, but Panorma took the edge!

Great location, I love the maze of alleys. Fairly quiet, except for a cat fight during the night. I stayed in a triple with my sisters, plenty of room, although the bathroom is a little small for three girls. Breakfast is hearty & delicious! Staff recommended some great restaurants. My parents had a great view of the harbor from their room on the top floor.

Friendly reception. Breakfast room is nothing to write home about but the breakfast is - creamy yogurt with cherries or honey, fresh bread, cheese, cake, coffee, fresh orange juice. Don't stay here if you can't handle walking up lts of stairs, no lifts. Room was not big, but sufficient, with charcter. The view is a bit cut of from roofs in front, but we could see the water and building in main harbour area. Bathrrom and shower cubicle very small. Reception closes at 9:30pm.

The Hotel is located in the heart of Chania's old town, directly behind the harbour on a quiet street. The rooms are nice, well decorated, clean and spacious. The staff was helpful and the breakfast was good. Not many rooms have double beds, so request one when you book.

Whilst the location was superb, right in the heart of the old town, the room on the top floor was dingy. The receptionists were disinterested at best, rarely raising a smile, let alone a good morning.

We were there on our honeymoon and it was one of the reasons why this was so beautyfull.
The hotel itself is great, nice building, furniture, food (breakfast was more than good and enough!!) and staff. The girls at the reception were simply fantastic: nice and alwas ready to help you, always wearing a smile on their face.
It was simply GREAT!

In the heart of Chania's fascinating "old town," this hotel's unique, funky rooms are more than adequate but climbing the steep staircase to get to the top floors is a heart attack waiting to happen.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our Hotel, an imposing, tall, 600 year old building, has gathered a rich history over the passing of the centuries. During the days of Turkish Rule, the building housed members of high ranking Turkish military who made many changes to the buildings architecture - even built a Hamam. In the garden and next to that, a room to secure their slaves (where you can still see the metallic rings nailed to the walls). In the beginning of the 19th Century, the building was used as a French embassy and later was inhabited by the great Greek political figure, Eleftherios Venizelos, who also used it as his political offices until his move to Athens, when he took power as Prime Minister of Greece. The Hotel has 10 beautiful rooms - the 2 of which are maisonettes - fully restored and traditionally decorated to provide our guests with an especially warm and welcome feeling. All rooms have modern conveniences (WC, telephone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning and Central Heating in winter) ensuring our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. ... more   less
